Sermon Application Questions
We heard a good word from Matthew 13 about how having a realistic expectation of what's coming fuels endurance for the Christian life and ministry. Following are a couple of questions to consider for those of you who discuss the sermon in your GCG.
1. When sharing the gospel with unbelievers are you discouraged when you get a negative response to the gospel thinking that this is clear evidence that you are not bearing fruit? From Jesus' teaching on the parable of the sower what should be your expectation? And what does this mean for the question of fruit-bearing?
2. From the passage and sermon, how are we to recognize a true work of God's grace in our lives and those of our brothers and sisters?
3. How often do you compare your "fruit" to that of others? What is the typical result when you do this? What does Matt. 13:23 have to say about one Christian's fruit-bearing compared to another? Is there ever any spiritual profit in comparing your fruit-bearing to another Christian's?
4. What did Pastor Ryan teach about where fruit-bearing comes from?
May the Lord be pleased to strengthen us by his Spirit to sow his word increasingly in our own hearts and those around us, that we might increasingly bear fruit for his glory!!!
