  • This is Connected to That: Knowing God’s Will
    God’s Specific Will

Very specifically laid out in the Bible

      Treatment of people
      Forgiveness
      God’s Revealed Will

      We want to know…

        Who to marry?
What car to buy? What job to take?

“This is the account of Jacob’s family line. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him.

4 When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. 5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”

What we can learn through Joseph’s life

        GENESIS 37:2-7
#1 What we can learn through Joseph’s life
God’s Will can overcome your messy reality

“God’s will, will make a way.”

#2 God’s Will never seems to be in a hurry.

Genesis 15 :5,“Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, ‘Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have.’”

3-Understanding God’s Will may upset the people in your life

How do we respond to the Will of God ?

          No way-Way
          Halfway
          My Way
          God’s Way
          REMEMBER

The thing your going through is connected to Gods will for you.

        • Time for a Turn-Around on God’s Highway

          • Can you think of one regret you had last year?

          • Regret can be identified as opportunities not seized!

.2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

          Luke 5:2-10
            GAME CHANGER

“ BUT BECAUSE YOU SAY  SO “ 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

           Lesson

Unless they had gone through a night of disappointment, the deliverance that Jesus brought wouldn’t have really meant that much.

          Point

We could be one time away from experiencing God’s blessing in a way that we never knew was even possible, but we let what happened last time keep us from moving forward this time.

          Motto for 2024:
           “Because you say so”

7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”

          LESSON

Repentance and confession is what unlocks a new future as you turnaround.

9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

          Luke 2:10-12
          Point of Today:

God gave us what we need, a savior.

ISIAIAH 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter, “says the LORD.“ Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.……….. THE WHITE OF CHRISTMAS

          MATTHEW 1:1-14

1 This is the genealogy[a] of Jesus the Messiah[b] the son of David, the son of Abraham:2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram,4 Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse,6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah,9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,10 Hezekiah thefather of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah[c] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,13 Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,14 Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud,15 Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah]

          Matthew 1:1-14
          MATTHEW 1:1-14

To show us 14 generations of broken people who needed a Savior.

          Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Praise the Lord, it’s a free gift!

          Intertestamental period:

Between the last book of the Old Testament (Malachi) and the first book of the New Testament (Matthew) is this period of around 400 years known as the intertestamental period.

          GOD WAS QUIET!

Israel was waiting on a Promised Messiah.
During those 400 years God was silent.
Spiritually, it was like Winter, white and barren no specificcolor.
When’s the green of Spring coming?
            Where is God in Winter?
Point: God was working to bring the green While His people grow through the White.
Galatians 4:4 “ it was the fullness of time. God sent His Son to be born into this world.“ GREEN.

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.”

            Luke chapter 2:1-3

“The seed of the woman will crush your head. The seed of the woman will save you from this serpent, from Satan.”

            Gen. 3:15
            1. In the winter I can trust God’s timing (Green is coming!)
2 Peter 3:4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
2 Peter 3:9 “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”
              2. In the winter I can be confident that God is at work. (Green is coming)
Psalms 121 :4 “ indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep”.
Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel. “ (740 BC)
Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.(760 BC)
Matt. 2:14 “ So [a]Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. (60’s)
2 Peter 3:9 says, “God is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.” And then itsays, “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

We’re not called to save the world…

but we’re called to be a positive influence in our sphere of influence, & the whole world is full of only two groups of people:

You’re either saved by the blood of the Lamb
                      You’re lost.

“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.31 “Which of the two did what his father wanted? ”The first,” they answered.Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe im, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believehim.”

                      Matt. 28 :28-3228
                      4 Why’s of Obedience
Obedience empowers your witness for Christ
James 1:22-2422 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.”
Obedience demonstrates your trust in God
Luke 5:3-83” And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the [a]people from the boat. 4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered and said,
Obedience demonstrates your trust in God
“Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but [b]I will do as You say and let down the nets.” 6 When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break; 7 so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus’ [c]feet, saying, “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man”
Obedience shows our love for the Lord
1 John 2:3-53 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
1 Samuel 15:22, “: ‘Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord?
John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commands.”
Matthew 7:21, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but rather to save the world through him.” John 3:17

“When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ ‘Be quiet!’ many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’”

                                        Mark10:47-48

“When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, ‘Tell him to come here.’ So they called the blind man. ‘Cheer up,’ they said. ‘Come on, he’s calling you!’ Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.”

“‘What do you want me to do for you?’ Jesus asked. ‘My rabbi,’ the blind man said, ‘I want to see!’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Go, for your faith has healed you.’ Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.”

                                          Mark 10:51-52

“‘What do you want me to do for you?’ he asked. They replied, ‘Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.’ ‘You don’t know what you are asking,’ Jesus said. ‘Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?’”

Why are some things in me so hard to change?
Because I have had them for so long.
                                            Because I identify with them.
                                            Because they have a payoff.
                                            Because Satan discourages me.

“Since you have heard all about Jesus and have learned the truth that is in him, throw off your old evil nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and through, full of lust and deception. Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. You must put on your new nature because you are a new person, created in God’s likeness — righteous, holy, and true. So put away all falsehood and tell your neighbor the truth because we belong to each other. Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a mighty foothold to the Devil.”

                                            Ephesians 4:21-27
Reboots that bring lasting, personal change
                                            1. Change requires learning and facing the truth.
“Learn the truth and never reject it!” Proverbs 23:23
Behind every self-defeating behavior is a lie I believe.
“Love should always make us tell the truth. Then we will grow in every way and be more like Christ.
                                              2. Change requires new thinking
“Instead let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes “Ephesians 4:23
“Let the same mind and attitude be in you which was in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5
MY SO-CALLED “DEFECTS” ARE OFTEN … strengths being misused.

                                                strengths being misused.

                                                Change requires the Holy Spirit
“This is the word of the Lord: ‘You will not succeed by your own strength or power, but by mySpirit,’ says the Lord.” Zechariah 4:6
“As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him.” 2 Corinthians3:18
