Impact!

This week, in a special episode, Ellen talks to Clive about his experience of being trans and his reactions to a changing in attitudes toward trans people in both the US and UK. He talks about his lived experience of hiding a secret and rarely feeling able to let Anja, his female self, come out and be seen by the world. We talk about how this relates to authenticity and activism, and the beautiful way that Clive has recently found that his journey of gender exploration and coming to terms with his sexuality plays into and is being informed by his spiritual journey. Clive talks candidly, shedding light on the nuances of gender fluidity and his belief in the importance for fostering a beloved community that celebrates diversity and inclusion. Tune in for an enlightening conversation that invites empathy and understanding, introducing listeners both to a side of Clive and to the beautifully varied world of trans that many may know little about.

Feel free to reach out to Clive if you'd like to talk about your own searching or struggling with this issue via Messenger on our Facebook group, or via his website, https://www.clivejohnsonministry.com/tmg/tmindex.html.

Suggested Intention Focus for this week

This week, as we consider Clive’s fear that we may be moving away from building a beloved society that embraces full acceptance and inclusiveness of trans people, we suggest holding as our main intention:

We will that, in the face of legislative changes and the course of dialogue in our home countries toward trans people, all people will be moved by a desire for beloved community that fully upholds the dignity and equality of trans people, and that tolerates and celebrates differences of view.

Please join us in holding this.

This week, as a landmark legal ruling in the UK and sweeping executive orders in the US come into effect,  we take a deep dive into the controversial social issue that has sparked fierce debate in our own countries: the rights and recognition of people identifying as trans. We delve into the nature of the division in this divide, understand the challenge of finding a way forward that may be acceptable both to trans people and those who argue for their exclusion from single sex safe spaces, and explore what may lie behind the increasing unease in society on the issue, especially in the U.S. and U.K. Crucially, we consider why the "trans issue" is one that affects us all, and that to ignore or push it into the long grass risks further alienation and future crisis in our own back yards and has broader implications for equality, freedom of expression, and social progress. As always, we conclude with suggested intentions and prayers.

This is Part 1 of a 2 part special on this topic. Next time, Clive talks about his own experience of growing up trans and sharing his reactions and reflections on what’s now happening in our own back yards.

Suggested Intention Focus for this week

This week, as we consider the grave fear and sense of exclusion being faced by many trans people in the US and UK, as well as in other countries, we suggest holding as our main intention:

We will that there will be a readiness among all people to recognise and respect the gender identities of others that they may consider to be outside the norm, including where these may be contrary to the notion of binary or biologically-determined sex or gender according to their own faith-based or other worldview.

Please join us in holding this.

Intention and prayers start at 38 minutes 30 seconds.

World Labyrinth Day on 3 May encourages people around the world to walk a labyrinth, willing peace and harmony, and activating a wave of goodwill from the earliest walks in New Zealand and in the east through to the places where the sun will last set on this day in the west. With hundreds of events already planned, this offers a rare and important opportunity to meditate and send collective intention with thousands of others, en masse. In this episode, special guests Carmel Stabley and Susie Leiper tell us about the significance of labyrinths in meditation and healing, and how we can each play a part in willing positive intention as we are encouraged to "walk as one at one" (at 1pm in our time zone),  which may include using a finger labyrinth downloadable from the World Labyrinth Day website, or joining an online, virtual walk.

Ellen turns interviewee in this episode, as she talks about her role as Co-ordinator of World Labyrinth Day and her reflections of what has been learned and achieved over the 5 years that she has carried this mantle.

Suggested Intention for World Labyrinth Day

As regular listeners know, we always offer a suggested intention for the week ahead in our episodes. This week, looking forward to World Labyrinth Day 2025, we suggest as our intention this week:

We will that all who engage with World Labyrinth Day this year will be excited to experience and moved to pass on the power of collective intention for universal peace and wellbeing.

Please join us in holding this, both now, and on the day itself.

2025 Pre- World Labyrinth Day Intention:

The hearts of the hosts and participants are prepared for World Labyrinth Day. All labyrinths are connected for the highest good of our world.

Please join us in holding this ahead of the day.

In this episode, hosts Ellen Bintz and Clive Johnson explore the powerful impact of the Netflix series Adolescence and its timely themes of teenage violence, online misogyny, and radicalization. As the series sparks global discussions, Ellen and Clive dive into the portrayal of the challenges faced by teenage boys in today's digital age. It's not necessary to have watched the series in order to tune in with this episode, and we don't make that assumption!

Set against the backdrop of a British psychological crime drama, the hosts examine the major issues raised by the series, including the influence of toxic online spaces known as the manosphere, the pressures of social media, and the struggles of young boys navigating masculinity, mental health, and societal expectations.

Amidst alarming statistics and international concern, the episode highlights efforts to educate and guide young minds, engage parents and care givers, and foster meaningful conversations on how to address these critical issues. Join the discussion on what you can do to help counter harmful narratives and support a more empathetic and understanding approach to youth in crisis, and join with us in offering prayers and holding intention for what is among the most critical social crises of our age.

Prayers and intentions start at 28 minutes.

Suggested Intention Focus for this week

This week, as we contemplate the massive pressures and dangers faced by teenage boys and the response of their care givers in the wake of the Adolescence drama series, we suggest holding as our main intention:

We will that all who have influence in schools and on social media to recognise and be guided in their actions to foster a cultural change that aimed at addressing the harmful conditioning of young boys who are exposed to the manosphere.

Please join us in holding this.

As Global Healing Response turns its attention to a new aspect of this year's theme of authenticity, in this episode, we explore the topic of GRIT and its importance for staying true to ourselves in today's chaotic world. We consider understanding grit not just as determination, but a blend of passion, perseverance, and the courage to stay true to our core values despite the various challenges we may face. We explore how grit aligns with groundedness, guiding us to sustain our efforts, nurture our inner drive, and foster a stable sense of self and resilience. As always, we invite you to join us in holding intention, and suggest practices for cultivating grit, nurturing authenticity, and remaining steadfast amidst life's adversities.

Intentions and prayers start at 17 minutes 11 seconds.

Suggested Intention Focus for this week

This week, as we enter a new quarter and focus for Global Healing Response, focusing on the theme of grit and its importance for remaining authentic, we suggest holding as our main intention:

I will to endure and keep walking, not because my journey may always be simple,

Clive continues his conversation with spiritual teacher and director Andō, whose remarkable ministry focuses on the true nature and power of silence. In this episode, we explore the notion of nothingness, and also turn attention to understanding the role and value of spiritual direction. Andō draws on her deep experience of surrender, trust and dwelling in silence, following her many years of living in retreat and spiritual community, together with being out in the world, and through several major health crises. She talks about how she has been inspired by faith and practice in the Zen and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, along with Advaita Vedanta, Christian mysticism, non-denominational Christianity and contemporary nonduality, among others. As a spiritual director and contemplative mentor she serves those of all faiths and none. Andō offers a safe space for entering awareness of the movement of the divine in your life.

You can subscribe to Silentium, a journal on themes of interior silence — of meditation, contemplation, silent prayer, stillness, and quiet moments, for all faiths. Shared from a tiny hermitage in Cornwall, England by writer, spiritual director, and retreat facilitator Andō. Find and subscribe to Silentium at http://silentium.substack.com/welcome.

Join hosts Ellen Bintz and Clive Johnson as they attempt to build a picture of the aftermath of the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that recently struck Myanmar, causing widespread destruction and despair. With over 2,700 confirmed dead and thousands more injured, this episode sheds light on the immense challenges facing rescue teams amidst ongoing civil conflict and infrastructural collapse.

Reflecting on the broader impacts, we focus on the power of collective intention, meditation, and prayers in supporting those affected, looking at specific areas where our focus is needed both immediately and for the longer term.

Suggested Intention Focus for this week

This week, as Myanmar comes to terms with one of Asia’s most devastating earthquakes in a century, we suggest holding as our main intention:

We will that all involved in coordinating the recovery effort in Myanmar following last Friday’s earthquake will have wisdom to know where to direct their attention and resources to maximise protection of human life.

Please join us in holding this.

Prayers and intentions start at 12 minutes 38 seconds.

Many of us who are regular intercessors, meditators and intention holders instinctively know the importance of silence for this work. However, probably few of us may really appreciate just how critical silence is, nor have a sense of its power and true nature, even if we know that to rest in the space of silence goes far beyond simply stilling ourselves and detaching from the busyness of what goes on outside.

Few people may have such a clear understanding of what silence as our beautiful guest today, Andō, who is a living testament of a life dedicated to its mystery and healing power. Her remarkable life is one of full commitment to trusting in divine provision, spending many years living in retreat in Portugal, where her understanding of the nature of silence and connection with nature was truly experiential.

She previously spent time living in a Buddhist community, and continues to draw much inspiration from both Zen and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, along with Advaita Vedanta, Christian mysticism, nondenominational Christianity and contemporary non-duality, among others.  Overcoming a significant and long-lasting health shock, Andō recently returned to the UK, now living in Cornwall. Both online and in person, she offers a deeply inspiring mix of retreats, personal consultations, and other opportunities to explore the nature of silence, along with a deeply inspiring blog and acting as a spiritual director for nondenominational spiritual seekers, teachers, pastors, and priests of various faiths.

This is part 1 of a 2 part conversation.
