In this interview we talk to Whitney about more than her new book, Organize First Decorate Second and how to transform their living space into a personal sanctuary. We cover her motivations and God’s work in her life and work life.
In Organize First, Decorate Second, Whitney English provides more than practical
organizational advice; she also teaches readers how to design and structure a home
in a way that is as functional as it is meaningful and beautiful. Inspired by principles
of New Urbanism, she argues that function and aesthetics go hand in hand—and that
as we curate spaces that work and are visually appealing, we will find ourselves
more comfortable, inspired, creative, and fulfilled in the homes we inhabit.
Whitney English
Whitney English believes that anyone can live a beautiful life. She believes that gratitude is the birthplace of joy, that people matter, that love is the answer, that if you’re real you can’t be ugly, that everyone is creative and some of us have just forgotten, and that it’s worth trying to be a better version of yourself today than you were yesterday. She has boot-strapped two businesses to seven figures, has a degree in interior design, studied management at Parsons in New York City, and has had her work featured in O magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and on the Today Show (twice). She was featured as one of Country Living magazine’s Women Entrepreneurs in 2008. One of her favorite dreams-come-true, though, is her husband David, and their three children.

David Alford
Joseph Stam
David started Cross Purposes Productions in 2019 and has been a driving force behind the production of all four of their films. Married for 33 years to his incredible wife, Stephanie, he is the father of three adult children and three grandchildren. After graduating from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Radio-Television and Film in the early nineties, David worked in Christian radio in both Austin and Dallas Texas in both the Christian music format (Program director/on-air talent) as well as the talk format (on-air talent). When kids came along, David became to a public high school English teacher to be home more with his kids. While homeschooling his three children, he spent five years acting and directing in the San Antonio theatre scene and eventually became a professional actor at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virgina where he worked in the resident acting company for six years. Shortly before Covid hit, he took a hiatus from the stage and wrote his first screenplay for a short film. He produced it locally with some friends and submitted it to film festivals where it received numerous awards in the U.S. and internationally and well as a Global distribution deal. Since then, he has produced three more award-winning, feature length films that have gone on to be distributed worldwide and seen by millions of people on some of the largest streaming and satellite platforms in the world. His work has been voice dubbed into Portugueses and subtitled into many languages including Hindi to reach a larger global audience.
Joseph grew up, with a theatrical streak encouraged by his mother, and as a film enthusiast encouraged by his older brother (who is now a film editor.) He took the stage as Peter Pan when he was eight years old and never stopped. All the while he made home movies with his siblings, roping them into telling his stories. At sixteen years of age, Joseph was cast in his first short film, Cross Purposes. Working on a film set was a dream come true. Curious about everything involved in filmmaking, he started honing his writing and directing skills and eventually joined Cross Purposes Production’s creative team behind the camera for their next three full length films. Joseph has been recognized as an outstanding youth actor as well as an award-winning adult actor. Appearing in major Christian film festivals across the U.S. and internationally, Joseph’s film work can be seen globally on platforms such as Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Tubi, Pureflix, Up Faith and Family, Roku, Sling, Plex, Hoopla, AMC On demand, and FreeVee. Five years later, he hasn’t stopped writing, directing and acting in film productions. Sometimes, attempting all three on the same production.

Face Book
Wine is the most talked about food in the Bible. And yet the church in North America has neglected this important biblical theme and precious, tangible gift. Our difficult history with alcohol, especially distilled spirits, led to the prohibition, and its effects can still be felt today. Wine, like other gifts from God, can be abused. Warnings and boundaries are discussed in this series, just as they are presented in the Bible, but the series concentrates on the beauty of wine and explores how the Bible presents this gift for our flourishing.

The Chosen People’ Podcast from PRAY.com Provides Jewish Perspective on Scripture, Celebrates Common Biblical Heritage with Christians Cinematic Journey Through Old Testament Given Fresh Perspective by Host Yael Eckstein, President and CEO of The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
LOS ANGELES, Sep. 19, 2024 – PRAY.COM, the world’s leading app for daily prayer and faith-based audio content, proudly announces the release of The Chosen People, a new podcast hosted by Yael Eckstein, President and CEO of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (The Fellowship). This captivating devotional series offers a cinematic audio experience, bringing to life the timeless stories of the Old Testament and highlighting their relevance to both Christian and Jewish audiences.
Through The Chosen People, listeners will journey into the hearts and minds of ancient Israel, experiencing tales of wonder and war, of slavery and salvation. These powerful stories reveal not only the history of a nation but also the essence of being people of faith—of wrestling with God, of surviving trials and tribulations, and of finding purpose amid tragedy and sin.
"The biblical characters each hold divine revelation, which is especially relevant to us today, as the world seems so dark and scary. When we dive deep, we realize that their stories are our stories—their fall from grace, their struggle to survive, and the heroes who rose to build and save a nation, all hold profound wisdom and guidance for our lives as both Christians and Jews," said Eckstein. "Within these biblical narratives lie deep spiritual truths about faith, prayer, and the human spirit. They are stories that continue to define the people of Israel to this day and can help Christians understand the root of their faith in a practical and inspirational way."
Recorded in Israel, The Chosen People brings ancient history to life with vivid storytelling and spiritual reflections. Listeners are invited to reflect on how the Bible’s lessons apply to their own lives of faith and prayer.
“We are honored to bring this unique series to our audience,” said Matthew Potter, co-founder of PRAY.COM. “Yael’s Jewish perspective illuminates the richness of these Old Testament stories, inviting listeners to explore the spiritual heritage of Israel and its role in shaping their own faith journey.”
With themes of survival, redemption, and divine purpose, The Chosen People invites listeners to immerse themselves in Bible stories that resonate across time. Whether discovering these stories for the first time or revisiting them with fresh eyes, listeners of this series will be inspired to reflect, while finding and a deeper connection to the foundational truths of Scripture.

Dana K. White’s message speaks to listeners who feel overwhelmed by the pressures of perfection, offering them the freedom to embrace the truth that our worth isn’t defined by a spotless home but by God’s unconditional love. In Jesus Doesn’t Care About Your Messy Home, Dana reassures us that God’s grace is present in every bit of our chaos, focusing on our hearts, not our countertops.
Jesus Doesn’t Care About Your Messy House is a book about God’s grace, using an oddly specific example that feels both too unimportant and too daunting. The title doesn’t mean, “Don’t bother cleaning your house. Jesus doesn’t care.” It means you need to stop thinking of each pile as something Jesus is mad about.
Shame is paralyzing. Removing the shame from this struggle by understanding how God sees you, what He wants from you, and that He created you with exactly the brain that you have makes change possible. “Accepting that I am designed instead of defective removes the shame which allows me to finally make progress.”
“Cleanliness is next to godliness” isn’t in the Bible, but too many people assume the concept is true. That assumption is dangerous, both for those who love to organize and for those who are bewildered by their homes. “Grace isn’t there to fill in the gaps after I’ve done all I can do, it’s the entire foundation on which I stand.” Jesus “doesn’t want you to depend on or rest in anything other than Him. Even good things (like getting your house under control) can cause your heart to get off track, and Jesus cares very much about your heart.”
The first instance of Jesus directly calling out hypocrisy in religious leaders was triggered by the issue of cleanliness. He used their criticism of His disciples eating with unwashed hands as an example of their focus on tradition over truth and the danger of turning non-spiritual issues into spiritual issues.
Weakness is a gift from God. Your weakness, your struggle, your pain, whatever it is, is there to help you understand that you need God. While cleaning isn’t a spiritual issue, it is an amazing spiritual image, created to help us know God more through the way His creation works. Those of us who struggle with this issue have the opportunity to understand certain spiritual principles more deeply because of our struggle.
