Former Premier League Referee and current PGMOL Community and Public Engagement officer, Chris Foy, joins us on this episode of the podcast.
Chris hails from St Helens and is a former brickie and Police Officer who made it to the top refereeing in the English game, with almost 600 matches to his name, 261 in the Premier League, he is one of England's most experienced refs.
Highly respected by fans, players and his peers, Chris Foy started life in the Warrington League and, through hard work and dedication made it onto the Football League list back in the late 1990s.
We chat about his own personal highlights, including his time refereeing the Latics, career paths in football officialdom, VAR, how to improve game management and cut down abuse of officials, the refs that have had an impact over the years and the best player he has refereed.
Chris gives his opinion on the new wave of referees, he has worked along side both Sian Massey and Rebecca Welch and discusses the opportunities open to all, we chat about fan engagement and finally Chris gives us his hopes for the future of referees.
