We talk about how capitalism, as theorized by people such as Karl Marx, ultimately will lead towards the separation of people through the means of exchange. While commodities are meant to build or continue social relations, the progression of Capitalism is away from that truth, with things like automation, or realistically the segmentation of the production process of anything, will lead us to see a decrease in social relations, due to the separation between those creating a commodity, and those consuming it. This leads to a feeling of alienation that many of us have had exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic of (almost) the last year.
