Molly Ruggere founded CounterCulture Club as an alcohol-free alternative and works as a certified Sober Coach - not for hard core alcoholics bound for detox or rehab - but for Millennials and Gen Z (Zedheads? Zoomers?) - who just find life without booze to be liberating and a whole lot easier.
Stuart and Molly venture way beyond the outdated either/or of partiers vs. puritans to wander around in the “grey zone.” An illuminating conversation between a boomer man (Stu) and a millennial woman (Molly) learning from each other.

My friend Mar lives on the left coast in Washington state and survived an anti-semitic shooting rampage. It changed Mar. They now work for peace among all people. I met them in the overlapping worlds of adoption and addiction recovery.
It’s taken this old boomer a few tries to get the pronouns straight! But I’m a huge fan of Mar and we’ve learned from each other. I think you’ll be inspired as well.

USMC Iraq War Vet Erin Cobb can still describe the admirable qualities of the man who shot her twice in the head. It was her ex, a man once known as “GI Jeremy,” himself a Marine veteran of Iraq and ex-CMPD cop.
Erin walks us through their infatuation, love affair in a war zone, marriage, breakup, divorce and his obsessive stalking that culminated in an attempted murder suicide.
This is absolutely NOT a crime/murder podcast. It’s a compelling story of a complex and courageous woman who experienced profound trauma, healing. resilience and triumph. It both shocks and inspires.
TRIGGER WARNING: EXPLICIT REFERENCE TO WAR, GUN VIOLENCE AND SUICIDE.

Erin Cobb survived Iraq only to be shot twice in the head by her ex - also a US Marine she met in the war zone. She survived. Her ex shot himself and died. But to really understand her story, you need to hear from Erin herself about how she joined the Marine Corps and met her ex-husband. We start there in the first of two episodes profiling this exceptional woman whose self awareness and courage and resilience is nothing short of breathtaking.

After years, even decades of working for The Man at one of those “too big to fail” places, Kristin Winkle Beck bailed for her own sanity and well being. Now she feeds her soul in the non-profit world but she and her husband also operate a very much for-profit franchise. She calls it a “portfolio career.” I just call it fascinating. HEADS UP: This episode comes with a companion BONUS EPISODE with Kristin’s VERY useful advice on using LINKEDIN - a platform she calls her “favorite social media.” Spoken like a true entrepreneur! Check it out as well!!!

Eileen Carpenter’s epiphany came when she heard a Southern Belle at Vanderbilt bragging about her horse. She did the math. The animal was worth more than her parents’ house. And her parents were both college educated professionals. They worked at a university. But Eileen and her parents were Black and living in Nashville in the 1960’s.
Eileen’s experience at Vanderbilt University was so painful she did not return for more than two decades. She went back, she says, to face down the ghosts. She’s glad she did. She called our interview “cathartic.”
This is the very history some people are trying to keep out of our schools. It’s important to hear.

I met Amy Kurland’s sister Wendy before I ever knew her. But I’ve known Amy for well over a quarter century. Nashville music people are as open and giving and generous and humble as bi-coastal superstars are….not. I generalize. I’d love to be proven wrong.
We talk about her father playing string parts for Patsy Cline, her watching Johnny Cash up close taping his TV show, as well as Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, and my personal crushes, Marshall Chapman and Mary Gauthier.
In short, a name dropping extravaganza between a couple of old pals. SO FUN! If you love music of any kind and value songwriting, do not miss a moment.
