In May of 2023, Family Medicine lost a friend, a mentor, a leader, a trailblazer, a remarkable human being.  Dr. Jim Jones was a respected community family doctor who practiced full scope medical care, a revered educator instrumental in establishing the medical school at East Carolina University, and a leader in both North Carolina and American Family Medicine.  
In short, Dr. Jim Jones was a giant of Family Medicine.  We family doctors are here because of Dr. Jones.
Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Jim's boyhood hero, once said that the purpose of human life is to serve, to show compassion and the will to help others.  Dr. Jones lived, practiced, and taught those ideals.
It is important that Family Medicine remembers and honors the solid bedrock on which we have built our house.  
Dr. Jones, we will "Go Forth, and Do Well."
