Raising teens can sometimes feel like a battle of wills. In this episode, Jamie seeks parenting advice from Heather after a blowup with her son over dirty dishes. For our kids, summer doesn't have a strict schedule, resulting in a lot of aimless time. Left to their own devices, they would probably watch TV and eat candy all day. Since they don't understand the full perspective, we often have to make our kids do things they don't want to do. It's okay to empathize, but how do we draw a line in the sand?
Join us for a deep dive into parenting, family yoga gone wrong, and a book recommendation! Let's survive summer together in the fourth episode of our mini-series called Surviving Summer.
Show Notes: In this episode, Heather mentions the book Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri. You can purchase the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Everything-Sad-Untrue-true-story/dp/1646140001
Summer isn't always smooth sailing. In this episode, Jamie and Heather talk about some of the biggest challenges they've had this summer. Jamie talks about getting a notification that her husband had been in an accident, Heather talks about walking children through conflict in friendship, and together they ask hard-hitting questions like why is "in sickness and in health" the hardest vow to keep, and how much neighborhood pool PDA is too much?
Whether you're at home with the kids, traveling, working, or everything in between – let's survive summer together in the third episode of our mini-series called Surviving Summer.

We all have different experiences with the Psalms; sometimes we read them and think, "huh?" You may love the depth of emotion and vulnerability, or maybe you avoid them altogether. So, what do we do with them? How do we read and understand 150 chapters compiled over 1,000 years? In this episode, our Spiritual Formation Pastors, Angela Ekstrum, Casey Shirley, and Blake Zimmerman, explain the structure and history of the Psalms, the practices of lament and gratitude, and teach us how to approach reading scripture meditatively so that we can ultimately understand more about God and ourselves.

Faithfully following Jesus involves having clear and honest communication with the people in our lives. Trying to go it alone puts us into an exhausting cycle: we don't ask for help, we become resentful, and we make things harder on ourselves. Jamie and Heather have had to learn the consequences of trying to do things in their own strength the hard way, and they are ready to break this cycle and move forward in their relationships in a way that not only honors the people they love, but honors God.

We live in a culture that wears busyness like a badge of honor. How do you faithfully follow the Lord in a season where there doesn't seem to be any margin for more of God? Both Heather and Jamie are in really busy seasons and have had to wrestle with the tension of rushing through moments versus being intentional and present in the daily rhythms of life. You want to show up for all the people in your life, but it feels like there's just not enough time in the day or patience in your heart. So, what do you do? Let's talk about it! Shownotes:
