Hitting all of the feels with beloved holiday commercials. The wild hype and ultimate failure of LaserDisc. Some strange advertising mascots that starred in their own comic books.
Episode 174 is like sitting beside a crackling fire with a cup of hot cocoa, only in podcast form.
It begins with commercials. You've heard of The Twelve Days of Christmas? Well, this is twelve of the most iconic and beloved holiday ads of all-time. They might promote beer, soda, candy, and more, but they are chock full of warm and fuzzy nostalgia.
Some technology changes the world, like radio, television, and the Internet. Other technology comes in with hype and departs a failure. We go way Back In the Day to look at the history of LaserDisc. It promised to change the landscape of visual media and ended up a footnote in the technological trash bin. But why?
X-Men, Superman, and Batman these are not. In a new Top 5, we look at some strange and often hilarious advertising mascots that graced their own comic books. An added bonus is the DC/Marvel crossover that could still happen someday.

Let's go back to the mall!
In Episode 173 we are traveling back inside the hallowed halls of the indoor shopping mall. 
Back in Episode 129, we looked at some of the popular, beloved, and maybe some lesser-known mall stores that attracted customers, or perhaps at least hordes of wandering mall rats during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Well, now we're back for Part 2!
A visit to the mall was always a special and exciting time back in the day. Although the indoor mall is still a popular destination today, its heyday was definitely the '70s through the '90s.
You didn't need much money as the 'mall rat' identity only required you to be inside a mall hanging out with friends. Kids of the day could spend hours sitting on benches or wandering the corridors looking into some of the stores that will be mentioned this week.

Episode 171 will stuff you full of nostalgia and even provide some leftovers.
It begins with the story of the rise and fall of the iconic brand Tupperware. For decades it has been synonymous with food storage. However today Tupperware is at a crossroads. Whether they survive or fade into the past we'll look at the impact of the brand this week.
One product that came in with an explosion and quickly faded away was Crystal Pepsi. Once hailed as the soda of the future it ended up becoming a punchline for failure. We go back to the beginning though as we review an employee training video about selling and marketing Crystal Pepsi. This video will make you think of what might have been in between loud laughter.
Hopefully, you will not see these foods on your table this year. A new Top 5 will showcase more weird old Thanksgiving recipes. These range from odd to unique to just plain gross. The first weird recipe countdown is in Episode 94.

The birthday of the King of the Monsters. The breaking of one of sports' most infamous 'curses.' Some chilling 1990s urban legends.
Episode 167 of the podcast rampages through spooky nostalgia like a towering kaiju.
It begins with a trip back 20 years and a moment that will live in New England sports lore forever. For decades the Curse of the Bambino haunted the Boston Red Sox and its fans. In 2004 the curse was finally broken and the Red Sox became World Series champions. We'll look back at that 86-year journey.
Generations of people grew up on Godzilla the King of the Monsters. This week the beloved and also feared creature turns 70. We go way Back In the Day to look at the inspiration for the creation of Godzilla, what went into the original film, and the overall impact of the monster.
Whether plausible or total fantasy there is no doubting that this week's Top 5 is filled with spooky urban legends. We will look back at some 1990s urban legends that filled people with fear, but it will not include the actual Urban Legend movie from 1998.

What were some of the most infamous New England mental asylums? What was Halloween safety like in 1977? What about horror movies made into video games?
Scares come in all shapes and sizes on Episode 166 of the podcast.
Spooky Season doesn't get more terrifying than the reality of mental hospitals in the 19th and 20th centuries. We look at a handful of the most notorious asylums from New England. Some of these are long gone, some have decaying remains you can visit.
Trick or Treating in the 2020s is far different than it was in the 1970s. This becomes apparent as we go way Back In the Day and review a Halloween safety short film from 1977. What surprised you most about this film?
Just because a horror movie is a classic does not necessarily mean it will translate well to the video game realm. This new Top 5 looks at some scary bad, and a few scary good, video games developed from classic horror movies.
The new This Week In History and Time Capsule are far less spooky as we look back at the publication of the children's book classic Winnie the Pooh.
