  • Meet Jami Burrell: One of The Faces Behind BornLeadaz Podcast
We're thrilled to introduce Jami Burrell And Lavonte Smith, the masterminds behind the BornLeadaz podcast. Lavonte shared that he originally came up with the idea of creating a podcast and knew that he wanted Jami to be his partner. Despite their differences, they complement each other perfectly. They brainstormed various names for the podcast, and after getting the blessing from their cousin Ponnie, one of the founders of BornLeadaz, they finalized the name and kicked off the podcast in September 2020, during the pandemic.
Through it all, Lavonte and Jami have remained steadfast in their commitment to professionalism and humility. It's a valuable lesson that they've learned and one that they'll continue to apply as they grow their podcast.

  • Hotep: Entrepreneur, Media Producer, and Advocate for Ownership
Hotep, a native New Yorker born in the 1970s, represents the progress made during the civil rights movement, the emergence of Hip-Hop music, and the importance of African consciousness in American culture. After completing his studies at Morehouse College, Hotep became one of the few black male elementary teachers in his district. While teaching, he witnessed the immense influence that media has on human thinking and behavior. This revelation led him to pursue entrepreneurship.
Hotep explains that he “had no choice but to become an entrepreneur because he refused to be in a position where he needed permission from others to manifest his ideas into reality”. Presently, Hotep works as a consultant to schools across the United States, a father of two, and a creator of various forms of media, including books, cartoons, films, music, and video games. His exceptional work has earned nominations for the Presidential Citizen’s Award and recognition as a CNN Hero.
Hotep strongly believes that entrepreneurship is the key to freedom for all individuals. As he puts it, “It’s either ownership or slaveship.”
