  • Suzanne and Erick Lamba, creators of Lyah's TV on In The Doll Word doll podcast

In The Doll World doll podcast is joined by husband and wife duo, Suzanne and Erick Lamba, creators of Lyah's TV.  The UK's first black Barbie doll show on YouTube which actively aims to promote black dolls, black families, and black history for all children. What a wonderful, powerful and inspiring interview we had with them.
    www.inthedollworld.com/storytellers

The channel was created in July 2020. During the first lockdown, the couple was surprised and saddened to find their 3-year-old daughter begin to question and compare her appearance to the dolls she was seeing on YouTube, primarily Mattel’s white Barbie dolls. With little to choose from as an alternative, the couple decided to create their own doll show voiced by them and their family.

Lyah's TV follows the adventures of a black family - a mother and father and their triplets – the Lyah family. Various episodes include other members of their family and friends. The episodes are educational and fun for all children to enjoy.

Suzanne and Erick have worked with a number of black-owned companies and incorporated their work in the Lyah shows. This includes doll companies such as Biankha and Friends and Hello Nana Dolls as well as other black professionals such Sophia Wilson, author of the children's books “The Left Handed Champ”, and “Simone’s Oasis” educational entertainment company.

THIS SHOW IS A REPLAY - In The Doll World, doll podcast is joined by Allison Hernandez, host of YouTube's Muñecas, Poupees, and Dolls and avid doll collector.  https://www.inthedollworld.com/storytellers.html

We sit down for a  wonderful interview as we talk about her love of dolls, even at the tender age of 11 she knew she wanted to be a doll collector, at which point I told my family, “I’m a doll collector I think by telling everyone I was a doll collector, it spared many of my childhood dolls, and my mom never made me get rid of them. I’m lucky to have all of my cherished childhood dolls to this day.  One of which is her mom's Crissy doll that was passed down to her.  We get to talk about why she started the show and why she felt the need for a show like hers was important.  We also get to hear about an amazing opportunity she is creating to help other doll creatives out there, that can help to fund some of your creative dreams, you don't want to miss hearing about this. You also get to hear what ROPD stands for, it is hilarious!

  • Sydney Schoenfeld, Artist, Creator & future Doll Designer

In The Doll World (ITDW) is honored to introduce you to Sydney "Syd" Schoenfeld! www.inthedollworld.com/creators

We had such a wonderful time learning more about Sydney's doll journey, her talent,  aspirations, and the ways she wants to inspire us all through dolls.

I, Tammy, stumbled upon Syd quite by accident. I saw some of her art and found it fun and refreshing. I was so excited to have found someone early in their career who we could follow as they transitioned from college to the work world! Little did I know, Syd was not transitioning from college to her career: Syd was transitioning from high school to college!

We are excited to follow Syd's doll journey and are looking forward to sharing her learnings and adventures with you!

Bio provided by Syd: "Syd is an up-and-coming artist in the doll world. She is 17-years old and is preparing for college next year. Her goals are to attend university and to major in toy design. Ultimately, Syd would like to become a product designer for the Barbie branch at Mattel.

She has worked as a packaging designer with many small makeup businesses as well as created other miscellaneous pieces for her clients. Syd wants to make waves in the doll world--not only with design--but, with diversity. Her goal is for every child to feel seen. In her words, 'Every child deserves to feel special. Toys teach us how to see the world and inspire us to use our imagination to make it a better place.'"

In her free time, she runs a freelance art business on her Instagram account, @sydscribbs

  • Tamara Casey, Owner of Designs by Jude on In The Doll World doll podcast

We are joined by the delightful and talented doll clothing pattern designer, Tamara Casey, Owner of Designs by Jude, on In The Doll World, doll podcast. https://www.inthedollworld.com/podcasts

As Tamara states, her doll journey was similar and different from others who have become dedicated doll lovers and collectors. When I was growing up my mother and grandmother were both accomplished crafters. My grams owned a ceramic shop, and my mom would make ceramic and porcelain dolls and enter them into competitions. Both women were amazing sewers and quilters and I was neither. I dabbled in their art but preferred being outside. I was a bit of a tomboy.  She eventually found her love for dolls as a young teenager through a friendship with a younger neighbor. They would spend countless hours playing with Barbie.  Tamara thought she would play with dolls well into her twenties, but was wrong and she did not rediscover dolls until she owned a small gift store in 2000.

Tamara began her journey back as a painter and customizer. Reading through one of the magazines she saw an article about OOAK dolls. Fascinated, she told her husband that people were buying thrift store dolls and transforming them into mermaids and fairies with paints, silk flowers, and a glue gun.  That began her venture into repainting and customizing.

When Robert Tonner’s Marley Wentworth was released in 2005 as a basic doll, she decided to create her first sewing pattern. It was a hand-drawn pattern for pants, a top, and a floppy hat. From there the collection began to grow.

Over time she had developed a relationship with Jackie, the owner of the Doll Market in Greensboro, NC.  In 2008 Jackie, asked her if she wanted to purchase it.  Feeling she just didn’t know enough about the varied inventory and retail was not her goal, she declined.  Tamara states, everything happens for a reason. Just having her ask me about buying her business opened my mind up to the possibility of growing my business.

Shortly after that, my mom saw that Gary Fletcher was selling his pattern business, and the rest as they say is "Herstory"

Renata enjoyed making the charms so much, she decided to learn how to sculpt a fairy! She stumbled upon the world of one-of-a-kind dolls ... and, her doll journey began!

  • Patrizia Cozzo, OOAK Doll Artist on In The Doll World doll podcast

Join our wonderful conversation with Patrizia Cozzo on In The Doll World doll podcast as she shares with us her unique story. One that did not start with a love for dolls at https://www.inthedollworld.com/creators

Patrizia says  was not very fond of dolls until she fell in love with the wonderful world of OOAK dolls years ago while surfing on the net.

She did  play with dolls when she was a little girl, and liked them, but  was not in love so to speak.  For her, discovering the art dolls world was a turning point.   She talks about how she could not afford the stunning creations she had seen,  so she decided she would give it a try and create one herself.    She did know about polymer clay when she was around 15 and was making jewelry and little animals, and because of that polymer clay was a natural choice for her.

Patrizia states,  I studied all I could find about doll making online and made my first doll in 2007.

Patrizia has also has great recognition in America as well as in Russia and Spain. She has been featured in many publications, such as Fashion Doll Quarterly and has also received many awards from  Russia and  Spain (PDMAG Gold Award, Collii Award, Gaudir Award).

  • Ping Lau, Sculptor & Doll Artist on In The Doll World doll podcast.

Join us as we talk with Ping Lau, Sculptor  & Doll Artist about her unique journey to creating dolls, from illustrator to sculptor on In The Doll World doll podcast www.inthedollworld.com/creators

Ping  shares with us her encounter with Marie Osmond and how that meeting truly kicked off her career and lead her to over 12 years working with Marie Osmond in helping to sculpt and  along with a few other artists, Marie Osmond Dolls.

Ping's dolls, paintings and other creations have been displayed at art galleries, art shows, and on national TV on the Home Shopping Network. Her doll kits are carried by retailers such as Ashton Drake, Doll Dreams, and Paradise Galleries.

A part of this show is also dedicated to something Ping Lau has been wanting to share and that is the serious problem of doll knock off scams. Last year they stole 8 of her dolls to copy and resell. We did not know how  truly invasive it is,  especially in the new born segment. Not only does it affecting the creators and their livelihood, but how it can also affect the health of the people and their families when these dolls are purchased, sometimes unbenowst to them that they are buying a knock off.  Many or most of these dolls that are being copied, may not be going through any of regulations they need to do in order to make sure the materials they are using are safe. Some of those materials maybe toxic to you.  We hope sharing this will help to expose what is happening and help to educate buyers on what to look for when purchasing certain dolls.

On our website you can find " 7 Tips to Avoiding Scam Doll Sales" that was shared with us by Ping Lau, that we  have compiled and put into an infographic that you can access on our website at https://www.inthedollworld.com/7-tips-doll-scams.html

  • Garrett Sander, Conceptual Creator of Monster High Dolls & Principal Designer with Moose Toy on In The Doll World doll podcast.

MONSTER HIGH DOLLS, GARRETT SANDER in the house.  Conceptual Creator of Monster High Dolls and Principal Designer with Moose Toy on In The Doll World doll podcast. www.inthedollworld.com/creators

Garrett's wonderful creative spark was initially ignited by his parents, who never said certain toys were for boys and girls, so he grew up playing with  all kinds of different toys growing up! From He-Man and She-Ra to Barbie and GI Joe figures.  Which gave him a huge canvas to dream about wanting to create toys.

One of his professors heard him talking about wanting to go into toys.  She connected him with a USC Art School alum who she knew was working at Mattel. Although he secured an interview at Mattel however he was still in school and couldn’t start working just yet, but they said they would keep him in mind - and they did call about a year later, he interviewed again and in 2004 started as a Packaging Designer at Mattel!

It was on the My Scene Team that Monster High was born.

He was able to work in various departments, one was the entertainment team where he also worked on Barbie: Dreamtopia, Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventures, with the DreamWorks team on She-Ra.

We also get a peek into what it's like being on the inside and get to hear what is truly needed to bring these toys and dolls to market within a big company. You also get to hear who really determines what goes on the doll and toy shelves.

After 14 years a job opening came up at Moose toys, a small Australian based toy company so he made the leap where he has created others amazing toys within that company and so much more.
