Edie Tanem is the host and today Joel Karsten is our guest; he's the StrawBale Garden guy and he's just got the latest edition of his book -- Straw Bale Gardens Complete -- out in time for the closing up of the pumpkin patches this coming week!   Joel's technique is not just using straw bales as planters, but actually starting and controlling a decomposition process that substitutes for soil entirely, right within the bale.  We kept our energetic and enthusiastic guest all hour long, explaining how it's done and how to do it.

Our guest this morning is Jeannie Perales, executive director of the Sonoma Botanical Garden in the Sonoma / Glen Ellen area of the Valley of the Moon, in the heart of NorCal wine country.   Jeannie spoke to us about current projects and presentations at the garden, which she views in much the same way a museum director would preside over a collection: in this case, the collection is plants, including a historical asian "forest" grown from mostly wild found seed by the founders of the garden; this is preserved while more recent projects include native species based landscapes.  Jeannie spent the hour with us and is a wealth of information.

Our guest on Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem is Peter Geiger, editor of the Farmers' Almanac -- specifically, the orange and green one, not the "old" one; both contain good info but the Tanems have long sworn by this "original" one.  Peter spent the hour with us discussing the weather, 2024, and more -- but no politics, and no election predictions thank you very much.

Bob Tanem In The Garden with Edie Tanem is on the air, and it's our much anticipated Goat Show today!  Joining Edie are Genevieve from City Grazing -- a local non-profit that maintains and rents out a large herd of goats -- and Molly, from Goats On The Go, Oakland; a recent local startup affiliating with a larger network of herbivorous land clearing outfits.

Then, in the second half, we were joined by Joel from Wildfire Services, a private company in the North Bay helping landowners make and maintain their properties as fire safe as possible.
