In this episode, we step away from more critical thinking to dive into the realm of hot takes. Is New York City overrated? Are the Beatles actually that good? Should we eat Cheetos with utensils? For these questions and more (including some viewer-submitted takes) tune in to this episode of In the Q.

What is justice? Is incarceration a form of justice? Are prisons currently accomplishing what they are supposed to accomplish? What are they supposed to accomplish? Should anyone die as punishment for a crime? In this episode, we continue to grapple with the role of the current criminal-legal system in today’s society and ask these questions. We discuss incarceration, the death penalty, and some ideas about alternatives to the current systems of “justice” in our country.

We’ve all seen RomComs before. You know, those one hour and forty minute movies about love overcoming all obstacles to put two young people on track to the perfect relationship. But what myths and stereotypes do they perpetuate? If they perpetuate these ideas, why do we keep coming back for more? Well, we decided to do some ~intense~ research of our own (in the form of watching three movies), and then came together to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of the RomCom.

In Part 2 of our Gen Z episode, we reflect on the changes that have happened in the month since we recorded Part 1. Protests have erupted all across the world in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Young people are mobilizing en masse to demand justice and change to our policing systems. Are we witnessing a revolution? In this episode, we examine our own place in this movement and whether we should defund or abolish the police as we know it. The Revolution Will Be Podcasted.

Gen Z has grown up with social media at our fingertips. From Instagram to Snapchat to Twitter, and now TikTok, we can move a message to thousands of people just by clicking “post.” But is the social media activism pioneered by Gen Z an unstoppable force of social change, or simply a distraction from the more strenuous work that still lurks ahead? Three Gen Z-ers discuss the perks and pitfalls of social media activism and how its rise has caused generational divides in our understandings of politics.
So there’s this social media app. It’s named after the sound a clock makes (or a song by Kesha, depending on who you ask). What’s the deal with TikTok? Why does it have over 2 billion downloads? Two avid TikTok users and a third high school senior discuss what TikTok is, what makes it different from other social media platforms, and if we should believe everything we see and hear on and about the platform.
Turning 18 can seem like a big step into adulthood. From legal privileges to social benefits, it feels like your 18th birthday is supposed to be a major transition. Is it though? Two newly 18-year-olds and a soon-to-be 18-year-old discuss what it feels like to find ourselves becoming "adults," and whether we think any 18-year-old is ready for the weight that transition holds.
