Today Dr. Chad and Dr. Nick would like to introduce Dr. Michael Mayr, DMD, MA, AIAOMT to the podcast. Dr. Mayr is a dentist and is part of a holistic dental practice in Boston called Harmony. Biologic dentistry is very interesting and Dr. Nick has taken on this journey on over the last year or so.This subspecialty of dentistry goes beyond just dentistry itself. Reducing the amount of toxicity in the body, especially mercury is a focus for sure as well as minimizing fluoride usage and exposure.
Dr. Mayr and the Harmony team follow the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT) amalgam removal protocols and promote overall health and wellness by:
Implementing mercury-free and mercury-safe protocols and procedures
Creating an environment that promotes minimal fluoride usage
Educating proper nutrition to prevent and reverse dental disease
Eliminating toxins from dental materials and processes
We dive a little into the profession of dentistry and how it has been evolving over the years as well as Harmony's recent shift away from the insurance-based model. Apparently, insurance is just as bad with dentistry as it is with physical therapy.
If you have been considering a holistic approach to dentistry or want to learn more about it then this episode will be worth the listen!

Hayden graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in 2020 and then went to continue his education at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science to graduate with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2023.
Hayden was a member of the Track and Field team as a sprinter, where he was a captain in his junior and senior year. Alongside this experience, he also coached small, and large group training sessions at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning gym where he earned his Certified Functional Strength Coach Certification (CFSC) and had the opportunity to work with clients of all different capabilities.
We not only have a discussion with Hayden as a new member of the team, but also as a PT colleague. We take this opportunity to talk with Hayden about his college experience and discuss his preparedness for entering in the world as a practicing PT.
If you are a new grad or exploring the option of becoming a PT then this episode will be a good listen for you. Also if you are a PT owner that is looking to hire a PT in the near future then there will be a few nuggets in here for you as well.

The Herbal Path is a natural pharmacy that is located in both Dover, NH and Portsmouth, NH. This is a natural pharmacy was founded in 1997 that specializes in natural remedies and alternatives to prescription drugs.
John has been with The Herbal Path for the last 2 years after spending most of his time in retail pharmacy. Dr. Chad and Dr. Nick are excited about this episode as we have another great guest speaker with us. Today we are talking with a physical therapist by the name of Justin Farnsworth. Justin was in town with us last week when we recorded this podcast as we hosted the PPSC certification course. PPSC stands for Pain-Free Performance Specialist Certification and Justin was our instructor.
In this episode of In The Rack Podcast we dive into the many issues within the medical and PT professions. It is courses like the PPSC that make good PTs great as well as give them the tools to be prepare their patients and clients for LIFE!!
We as PTs tend to under-load our patients. This is not emphasized in our graduate schooling and is up to us as the providers to become educated on how we can best help our patients and clients.
Not every physical therapist can be good trainer...Even though some may say otherwise. But if PTs can have a better understanding of strength and conditioning principles as well as how to apply them, then this can make for an unbelievable practitioner.
We also talk about our vision for the future of physical therapy and what we need to do as a profession to make that vision a reality.

Dr. Chad and Dr. Nick bring you a special episode today about a particular topic that might be a little uncomfortable for some people to hear. Not only does it need to be said, but if you are one of those people that feels uncomfortable with this topic then you are the type of person that actually needs to listen to this one.
The topic of today is a good way to end 2022 and start 2023. Its the topic of health shaming with an emphasis on respecting your own health as we dive into 2023. We also dive into some tips to help you navigate the upcoming holiday.
In 2022, we saw so many people in our community make huge strides on their health journey, and we certainly want to keep this rolling… However, in 2022, we also witnessed a culture that criticizes and shames you for giving unhealthy people a hard time, yet it “is totally fine” to make fun of people for “being healthy” by doing the boring small behaviors with pristine consistency.
There is a double standard in our culture, especially in the US. We are told to be okay with your body, no matter what! But this discounts the reality that one’s current weight/body fat content could very well indicate diminished poor metabolic health!! This is NOT OK!!!
It is one thing to be mentally stable with where you’re at and have plans in place to make strides toward a healthier you. We cannot continue on this train of “be okay in your own skin” if that means you’re continuing to live an unhealthy life!
Ultimately, we want people to respect their health in 2023!
We are NOT saying...go body shame people for being overweight! We want people to optimize their health. We want you to thrive, not just survive during your lifetime!!

Today we have a very special episode as today marks not only the 50th episode for us here on In The RACK Podcast, but it is our Halloween special episode where we share some scary stories with you. Dr. Chad and Dr. Nick are joined by Karyssa McCullough...Previously Shaw.
Unlike the story of the Sandersen Sisters in Hocus Pocus…These Stories are real. And in my opinion makes them even more scary.
I know Dr. Nick has a scary story of a foot patient that can be very relatable to a lot of you.
Karyssa talks about her journey of when she had her gallbladder removed.
Dr. Chad on the other hand is going to talk about the scary story regarding the testosterone epidemic that men are facing in our modern day society.

Dr. Chad and Dr. Nick bring you a special episode today about some things that we could do better with raising our children in modern day society. In the end it is on us as parents to make sure that we establish the right environment for our children to thrive in. We all want to be the best parents for our children and that can starts with us taking responsibility for their health.
Dr. Nick is a new dad to a beautiful son and gives his take on the journey that both him an his wife have been through over the last year. Dr. Chad has older children and gives his perspective on what he has implemented over the last 10 years.
Dad's...you don't get a pass on the health of your child. Yes...Your nutrition and quality of your health will impact the development of your child. This is not just on your wife!!
Many of the topics that we will cover in today's episode will include:
We all inherently have parental instincts!!
- WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS -
However, the modern world and culture blocks that intuition sometimes. Go with your gut, weigh the risks and benefits, and make the choice that is right for you, your baby and your family.

In this Episode Chad and Nick get a little reckless In The RACK!!
"If You Want It To Go Away...Don't Move"
This is what a patient was told by her medical doctor. Both Dr. Chad and Dr. Nick dive back into the use of language as well as how this statement could not be farther from the truth!
Dr. Chad talks about a patient that he had recently that was treated with the classic diagnosis of spinal stenosis. Not only was this patient not having relief with her treatments, but she was not being treated as an individual.
Dr. Nick talks about a situation in which he had a phone conversation with someone that was very much misdiagnosed by his medical provider. This was a situation in which Dr. Nick saved this person from going through an unnecessary surgery. This happens all too often, especially when a patient has surgery prior to exploring conventional treatment like physical therapy.
Having a patient stop a particular movement may not be bad advice as long as there is a plan to re-introduce that movement when appropriate. To tell someone that they should never do a particular movement ever again is not only bad advice, its reckless!!
These stories are not only crazy, but they are reckless!
It's reckless as a provider to be telling patients this type of harmful information!
So...if you are a healthcare provider and are listening to this episode we just ask that you don’t be reckless with other people's health.
Now for all of you patients that are listening…you shouldn’t put up with people who are reckless with yours!
Make sure to listen to the end of the episode to find out who we have as a guest on next week's episode.
