China has been negotiating the creation of a new joint training facility on the Caribbean island nation of Cuba, creating concerns it could lead to the stationing of Chinese troops in the waters off the US, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper on Tuesday reported that discussions between the two countries are in advanced stages, but had not concluded. The report said the officials from President Biden’s Administration have been trying to discourage their Cuban counterparts from finalizing the deal.
We discuss whether or not we should be worried about this news, is it okay for China to have military troops so close to the U.S. & how this relates to Taiwan

October 23, 2023 Corporations Voting In ELECTIONS? New Law Proposed In Delaware. We DEBATE | The Left Wing 8.1
Seaford, a town of about 8,000 on the Nanticoke River, amended its charter in April to allow businesses — including LLCs, corporations, trusts or partnerships — the right to vote in local elections. The law would go into effect once both houses of Delaware's state legislature approve it.
The proposal has rekindled a debate over how much power corporations should have in local government, with fierce opposition from civic interest groups who say businesses already wield too much influence over politics.
We discuss whether or not corporations should be allowed to vote in elections, if this is a slippery slope & what does this say about the Democratic Party

The US’s first-ever trial in a constitutional climate lawsuit kicked off on Monday morning in a packed courtroom in Helena, Montana.
The case, Held v Montana, was brought in 2020 by 16 plaintiffs between the ages of five and 22 from around the state who allege state officials violated their constitutional right to a healthy environment by enacting pro-fossil fuel policies.

Montana becomes the 1st state in the U.S. to ban Tik Tok from all devices. Do we agree or disagree with this move? We discuss
Montana has become the first state to ban the popular social media app TikTok. Gov. Greg Gianforte signed Senate Bill 419 on Wednesday, saying he wants to protect the state's residents' private information from being compromised. He pointed to the Chinese government as a potential threat. "The Chinese Communist Party using TikTok to spy on Americans, violate their privacy, and collect their personal, private, and sensitive information is well-documented," Gov. Gianforte said.
According to the measure in Montana, platforms that offer the app on their marketplaces, such as the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, will be subjected to fines up to $10,000 a day for violations. The ban will take effect Jan. 1, 2024

The pandemic border restrictions known as Title 42 ended at 11:59 p.m. ET on Thursday May 11th, lifting a policy that had sharply limited access to asylum since March 2020.
In its place, the Biden administration has implemented a combination of new asylum rules and legal pathways. These measures are intended to discourage migrants from crossing the border illegally and prevent an unprecedented increase of people seeking asylum along the southern border.

HOT LABOR SUMMER COCKTAIL

To celebrate Hot Labor Summer — a hashtag popularized by Chris Smalls — our resident anticapitalist bartender Jesse Torres crafted a delicious spicy cocktail by the same name. It’s perfect for on the patio, by the pool, or on the picket line.

60ml Kentucky Bourbon or Cognac (other spirits substitute nicely)
30ml Pineapple juice
15ml Good quality Grenadine
15ml Lime juice
1 dash Aromatic Bitters
Jalapeños (for muddling)

Muddle 2-3 slices of jalapeños in a shaker tin with the bourbon. Add the rest of the ingredients and shake well with ice. Double strain into a rocks glass rimmed with chili lime salt like Tajin, and fill with ice. Garnish with a grilled pineapple spear or jalapeño slice.
