Christ's message to the church at Philadelphia was one of commendation and encouragement with promises to those who would be victorious in their stand against the pressures of evil forces and the testing's of the days they were living in. They had remained faithful to Christ and faithful in their witness of Him. Today the calling of every individual believer and each local congregation is to be faithful by keeping His word as it is timeless truth.

The sovereignty of God is the focus of this lesson considering what God has revealed in His word about His sovereignty. There is a helpful consideration of the scope and implications of Him being sovereign.

The Lord of the Church had no words of commendation for this congregation but He nonetheless told them what was critically wrong and what was needed to make the correction. The consequences were to be severe for not heeding His word. While the majority were need in desperate need of hearing and heeding, no doubt the few who were remaining faithful were offered encouragement, hope, and promises for being overcomers who would realize the fullness of the victory they had by faith in Christ Jesus, the Lord of their Church.

Part six of this series presents a study concerning the knowledge of God, in other words, what does God know. How, why, and when does God know what He knows likewise is included along with the implications of that in His relationship with man and the provision of salvation for man.

Commendations, condemnation, and corrections were directed by the Lord to His church at Thyatira. While doing well in many areas the danger to this church came through their tolerance of what caused them to compromise biblical truth and the principles there in. False teachers had introduced both teaching and conduct that was contrary to the Scriptures that led to corruption in the individuals lives and thusly the corporate life of the church. Pressures from the surrounding society, culture, along with the morals of the day as adapted to the sins of the day made for difficulty for believers to stand firm in their walk and witness for the Lord. The call for correction by the Lord to repent and turn away and turn back was gracious and urgent for the life of that local church as at stake. Such call no less sounds today for many individuals and local churches with the danger no less impending.

This lecture continues the discussion of the attributes of God with those that are often referred to as -communicable.- Those presented include God's holiness, righteousness, truthfulness, goodness, mercy, grace, and love.

The message to the church at Pergamum contained commendations, criticisms and the corrections that were needed. The underlying problem confronting the church then is rampant in the professing church today. While the specific details may be different the outcome presents the same danger to the church. That danger being tolerance resulting in compromise that corrupts the doctrine, the practice, and the very lives of the believers coming under its influence. The bible alone must be the authoritative word for the church and the standard by which all teaching and practice is evaluated.

This study series continues with this presentation of the incommunicable attributes of God. Included in the discussion are God's aseity, eternality, immutability, omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, and unity.

The believers at the church at Smyrna received commendation for their loyalty and faithfulness to their Lord. In so doing they were willing to suffer rather than compromise or capitulate to the pressures of the times they lived in, neither socially nor politically. We read and learn from them yet today when we too who are local congregations of the universal church of Christ are and will increasingly face such pressure to conform to what would be a denial of our Lord. May He find us faithful as they were, even unto death.

Names of God that are giving in the Scriptures and their significance are discussed giving careful consideration to who God is. Each name is a statement and revelation about who God is and His character that is to be known by mankind. With such knowledge man is to worship and serve God with awe and reverence with which He is due. He alone is God, there is no other, and there is none like Him.
