About Girl Scouts of Central Indiana
We're 2.5 million strong—more than 1.7 million girls and 750,000 adults who believe in the power of every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ to change the world. Our extraordinary journey began more than 100 years ago with the original G.I.R.L., Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low. On March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, she organized the very first Girl Scout troop, and every year since, we’ve honored her vision and legacy, building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. We’re the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. And with programs from coast to coast and across the globe, Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success. To volunteer, reconnect, donate, or join, visit girlscoutsindiana.org or call 317.924.6800.
Becky Moore was watching an episode of Oprah years ago and learned about Camp to Belong, an organization that gives foster care siblings a week together at camp. As a former foster kid herself, she decided to start her own chapter. She talks about life within foster care, what this week of camp means to the kids that attend, and how we can help their efforts. Learn more at https://www.camptobelongind.org. Click to check out their volunteer flyer.
When our minds think of organizations that work in the space of domestic violence, we often think of intervention work. Stephanie Solomon, the Youth Programs Coordinator of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, works on prevention. What does that mean? She joins me to outline how cultural trends can lead to domestic violence and how her organization works with teens to end violence in the next generation. Learn more at https://icadvinc.org.
Andrew Neal is the Chief Executive Officer of Outreach Indiana to discuss the challenges cities face when trying to end homelessness. He explains everything from the difficulties of counting the population, how to serve teens in a system tilted towards adults, and what flaws exist between faith-based and public services. Learn more at https://www.outreachindiana.org/.
Niki Kelly is one of the most respected journalists in our state. She was recently announced as the editor-in-chief of “The Capital Chronicle”—the Indiana bureau of the States Newsroom. Our friend Jim Shella joins us on the “Leaders and Legends” podcast as we discuss Niki’s career, some of the biggest stories she’s covered, and why she thinks The Capital Chronicle can make its mark on the Hoosier media scene. Oh, and we talk about Niki’s Cincinnati Bengals and their run to the Super Bowl.

About The Starfish Initiative
Starfish Initiative was established in 2003 with a vision to make a difference in the lives of marginalized youth – one student at a time. Today, Starfish Initiative continues to advance our mission: “to inspire, encourage, and prepare academically-promising, high school students facing unearned adversity for college and career success,” through our comprehensive Starfish Experience, a statistically proven four-year pathway to economic mobility for Indianapolis high school students.
