5:00 pm A resident of Missouri City since 2005, Robin Elackatt was re-elected to his second term as Mayor of Missouri City, solidifying the hold by Asians in public office in Ft Bend County. We asked him to tell us about his achievements in his first term, how he managed to win by a 6% margin and what plans he has for his second term. He and his family are congregants of St Angela Merici Catholic Church in Sienna Plantation.

5:50 pm During this festive Season you hear infectious Christmas music and songs everywhere you go, in stores and on the radio. Some traditions, like church choirs and musicals add warmth to the colors of Christmas. Another tradition is to go caroling from door to door. In a first for Desi radio, we decided to go caroling on the air with three other Carolers: Francis Jacobs, Mahesh George and Kijana Wiseman along with show hosts Jay Malhotra & Jyoti Kulkarni.

4:20 pm As the economy cools down, thousands of people in the IT sector have found themselves thrown out of jobs that once seemed to be immune to the boom and bust cycle, like in oil and gas. Along with the layoffs lie the hopes of thousands of IT professionals from India who are here on H1B visas and fearing they may get deportation papers served any day. To tell us what their options are is immigration attorney Chiro Nanayakkara.

In the previous visits to the show, they have given advice on funding a college education, tips on planning a comfortable retirement and year end tax planning. 4:20 pm Women often find themselves stymied in upward mobility in corporate and government organizations. Those who do achieve executive roles make a path for other women to follow in their footsteps but still, progress is slow. The Women Ambassadors Foundation seeks to remedy that by education and training of younger women through internship programs and an annual conference held in Washington, DC. To tell us more about the Foundation is it’s President Dr Marilyn Sephocle who calls in from DC.

4:50 pm The Margaritaville Resort at Lake Conroe has gone through a major upgrade and offers great venues for parties and weddings large and small. What is not widely known is that they offer fantastic Indian food prepared by two eminently qualified Chefs, Amit Sen and Raman Singh who were on our show a month ago. Today we hear from Desiree Tapping, the resort’s Director of Catering as she calls in today to explain more of what the resort can provide for South Asian clients.

5:20 pm The 11th International Maheshwari and Rajasthani Convention was held in Houston at the Marriot Marquis hotel over the Thanksgiving weekend and over 900 people from across the country attended the event. The overall event coordination and arrangements were done by Sharad Mantri, joins us in the studio today to explain how the event came together and what was accomplished.

It’s especially a time for tantalizing desserts that are also easy for us to prepare. We asked Sunil Srivastava, the owner-chef of Verandah restaurant, to share one of his favorite holiday desserts.

5:40 pm Art and artists can be found in the most unusual locales, it is often just a a matter of finding them and bringing them to world view and appreciation. Mumbaikar Jyotika Karve has made it her life’s mission to find such Indian artwork at their source in villages and curating them in modern art fairs. We are fortunate to have her in the studio to talk about her curated collections which were displayed in Miami this month.
