4:20 pm Sri Lanka has been in a state of upheaval for the past 6 months as fuel and cooking gas have became increasingly expensive and inflation has soared. Import bans have made goods from overseas disappear. Protestors marched to the Presidential mansion, stormed the gate and found the place deserted. The family of President Gotabya Rajapaksa - who fled to Singapore and resigned by email - had concentrated power in his family which was badly leading the country. His successor Ranil Wickremewinghe appointed a friend of Rajapaksa as Prime Minister, which only infuriated the people further. Meanwhile the economy is in shambles. We asked Sri Lankan George Willy, who normally talks about immigration matters, and his wife Shanti, to guide us through the messy situation in their homeland.

5:00 pm Navin Soni has not just a passion for painting but he also believes in playing it forward by mentoring young kids in his native city Bhuj in Gujarat to enter the arts. His immense skills have been in high demand as a former pupil of the Swaminarayan Vadtal gadi, Rajkot Gurukul. He has spent the past two weeks in Plano developing artwork for a new book that will be unveiled on August 6. Navin bhai joins us today from New Jersey to explain his inspiration as an artist.

5:20 pm As part of an ongoing series entitled “Americanisation of Desis” we talk to young second Genner Vani Jain to describe what being an Indo American in today’s world has meant for her. She is a junior at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business. We asked her to share her experiences growing up and which ones she felt defined her best as an American Desi!

4:20 pm There have been 276 homicides in Houston since the year began and investigating them takes a lot of legwork by the police and the District Attorney’s office. Most of these cases involve gun violence and the work of sorting out the clues of what happened and who committed the crime usually falls on the shoulders of the newly created HomIcide Division of the Harris County DA’s office. The head of the Division, Jamie Burro, is with us today to explain how these cases are handled.

5:00 pm People describe him as being so humble and approachable and that a sense of calm pervades every place he enters. Swami Mukundananda is the founder of JK Yog and is currently on a tour of the US to conduct a life transformation course entitled “Science of Happiness”. From Aug 4 through 11, he will hold a week long course at the Durga Bari and daily discourses at India House and a separate discourse at the Hindu Worship Society on Aug 7.
