Kerri Chandler’s Vocal Mix von "I'm Searching" bringt Soul.
Die Kunst liegt hier in der Zurückhaltung: kein "Look what I can do"-Moment, sondern Fokus auf Flow und Tanz.

Always liked this song. But the real version’s so… so peppy. To me, it needed grit and a touch of detached academic inaccessibility.
This was recorded live at the Wien Konzerthaus in 1949 shortly after the release on London.
There were other performances but the recordings do not survive.
I love Brian Wilson and identify strongly with his fear of stages and his love of the studio. This is not intended to disrespect him in any way. It’s such a beautiful song.
And KARL, the best-sounding voice from the Chinese AI voice app I used to make these, did his best.
AI Karaoke is easy to make and it reveals the flawed nature of generative content. I put the a capella into an app that 1) interprets the words and transcribes the song, and 2) outputs MIDI that purports to follow the vocalist’s melody. But both things are done very badly.
I create backing tracks from scratch, and then put the output of the first step back through the app, to reconstitute a new vocal part. Which is inevitably very, very strange.
Then by adding the lime to the coconut, we can envision robot KARL doing his very best, like the character in Disco Elysium, to sing his heart out and emote. With words that are mostly incorrect, and strange melodic artifacts.
I find these hilarious and hope you chuckle too.

I think Dubmatix and I might have been separated at birth or something, and I was adopted, so that’s feasible, right? Absolutely top 5 desert island Substacks.
It felt a little weird to be told that I’ve been doing this for 27 years. When I started, there were plenty of OG DJs to admire and I definitely wasn’t one of them. But at that time — in about 1998 — Drum and Bass had only existed for MAYBE five years.
It never occurred to me that, eventually, I’d become original.
This mix doesn’t contain a lot of original jungle. Mostly newer dark-minimal sort of thing.

I originally posted this with a long Livejournal-flavored exegesis about my ex.
It’s a super solid mix that goes unexpected places, and it was made with strong feelings I was trying to express, and with an earnest desire to improve y’alls day, and thus the mix has been saved from the dustbin of history.
The post sucked though and was summarily binned.
“Karl” was the best-sounding voice in the Chinese AI singing tool I used to make these. I did not renew the subscription this year.

Donut thing in my brain
That’s what people say: “nom nom.”
Bake, bake, bake, bake, bake.
I’m lying on my feet
That’s what people see, uh hmm
That’s what they don’t see… uh nnn
I’m dealing all my own
May the moos of pants go, go
Not what they all owe:
That’s what they don’t know
Tonight, ice men bucket,
New girlfriend: she’s like “oh my god,
The… I just come shakin’ to the…
Look over there —
What the hell, a good hair”

TRAPPIST-1 is an ultracool red dwarf star located approximately 40 light-years from Earth in the constellation Aquarius. It is about 9% the mass of the Sun and emits very little visible light. In 2017, seven Earth-sized rocky planets were discovered orbiting this star. Three of these planets—TRAPPIST-1e, f, and g—lie within the system's habitable zone, where conditions may permit the presence of liquid water. The planets orbit very close to the star, with orbital periods ranging from 1.5 to 18.8 Earth days. Their proximity and size make them candidates for atmospheric and habitability studies, particularly via instruments such as the James Webb Space Telescope. The system is considered a high-priority target in the search for biosignatures beyond Earth.

A good DJ mix reveals its architecture slowly, as if by sleight of hand. This one opens with spectral glitter and bad encoding. The Slavic disco of Саша Чусовитин & Лёша Куприянцев, where the melody seems to have traveled through a CRT before reaching your ears, is an invocation and a warped one. Nostalgia, melted down, poured into a new mold.
From there, things snap into a tighter grid. Terrence Parker’s “Welcome to Southfield” sets the emotional compass: a reverent but unsentimental take on groove. The high-pass gospel treatment makes room. Loni Clark’s “Rushing” follows with surgical confidence, and the Mood II Swing dub and Romero's update find their pocket without overextending, threading vintage sensibility through contemporary restraint.
The first act of the mix forms like a cathedral floorplan: Chandler’s “Prayer (623 Again Vocal Mix)” stands at the pulpit, flanked by Folamour’s two velveted, French contributions, a little aloof but undeniably effective. Scaffolding. The mix trusts the listener to wait.
Momentum builds in the second act. Jauz and Dom Dolla throw more aggressive elbows without fracturing the mix’s internal logic. The peak stretch, Ruf Dug’s “Techno Cave” into Joseph Edmund, Mathias Kaden, and Crush Club, operates like a controlled burn. Here the pacing shifts. The mix doesn’t get louder, just denser.
Then the axis tilts again. “You Can Do It Baby” by Mark Knight and Danny Howard reintroduces space with shorter phrases, simpler structure, but the energy holds. A trio of late-stage house and tech-house selections (Amine Edge & DANCE, Flexb, and Paces) tap into club functionalism, yet the sequencing avoids monotony. Each transition is clean but deliberate. There’s no auto-pilot here.
The final descent begins with Roosevelt’s “See You Again,” which reframes the whole set with melodic melancholy. It plays like an afterimage: glossy, sincere, maybe even a little too clean, but at this point the mix has earned the sentimentality.
Then the fade: a few minutes of the Electrifying Mojo’s midnight broadcast, a pirate signal cutting through the FM haze. The fidelity is rough, the message scrambled, but the intention is clear. You’ve left the club and stumbled into something older, stranger, still pulsing.
This mix understands pacing in the classical sense. Not BPM management, but emotional sequencing. It builds a world, not just a vibe. The choices are specific, the arcs intentional. Every inclusion feels necessary, even the ones that don’t demand your attention at first pass.
File it under house, deep house, tech house, sure, but more accurately, it belongs in that rare category of mixes that model patience without sacrificing propulsion.
Recommended format: after midnight, solid headphones, nowhere to be.
