The greatest pain or greatest sorrow, according to Ramananda, is if you become separated from the devotee. So what he’s telling us, by inference, is: cause without that devotee you have no hope of Krishna connection.

Gurudev was so trusting, and that was so empowering. He said, “I don’t need to instruct my disciples. They know what to do. They know what is wrong, they know what is right.” And he was very hesitant to correct. He would give the devotees the opportunity to self-edit, to self-correct.

Mahaprabhu will embrace the position of a sannyāsi, and He is mad after gopī-bhāva, so who is the crown jewel of sannyāsis—why is He obsessed with gopī-bhāva, the love possessed by Rādhārāṇī and the Vraja-gopīs for Krishna? So it is to show there isn’t even a remote trace of mundane aspects.

What is Krishna’s flaw—if He has one?—That He’s not a devotee.
