In this second bonus episode of Infrastructured I go to Moynihan Train Hall again-- this time in the early afternoon and with my good friend, Maddy Paull.
In this bonus episode of Infrastructured I visit Moynihan Train Hall, which is the new home for Amtrak and Long Island Railroad train departures and arrivals. Penn Station still exists across the street and people can still catch their trains from the sub-basement of Madison Square Garden, but Moynihan Train Hall is the new flagship hub.
In this final episode of the series, I talk about the "Down the West Coast" part of my Amtrak Trip.
I went from Whitefish, MT to Seattle, WA. And then I made my way down the coast, stopping in Eugene, OR >> Oakland, CA >> Salinas, CA >> San Luis Obispo, CA >> Los Angeles, CA.
In episode three I talk about Part Two of my Amtrak Trip Across the Country where I go from Chicago, Illinois to Whitefish, Montana. But first I discuss what it means to call Amtrak a democratic mainstay of American public life.
In this second episode of Infrastructured I interview Yonah Freemark about the now passed House of Representatives' "INVEST in America Act," which is a $494 Billion Transportation Re-Authorization Bill that will fund the transportation infrastructure of the United States over the next five years. We talk about the different parts of the bill, from Amtrak to addressing the Climate Crisis, and discuss the complicated history of transportation policies prioritizing highways and cars. But this must change. We need to prioritize passenger rail and public transit in this country and this discussion talks about how the INVEST Act begins to get us there.
This is the trailer episode to "Infrastructured"
This first episode of Infrastructured will introduce the season and begin telling the story of my Amtrak journey across the country and down the West Coast. In this episode, I will discuss the first segment of my trip between New York City and Chicago--the gateway to the rest of the Amtrak network.
