Galatians 5:22-26

“Gentle Jesus, Meek and Mild,” was one of the many hymns written by Charles Wesley. But today, these words could be used of someone who is soft and non-confrontational – and this certainly does not describe Jesus. Gentleness or meekness is a Spirit-led control over one's emotions that yields the biblically appropriate response in any situation.

You can visit Yellowstone National Park and see Old Faithful shoot a tower of water into the air like clockwork, but this would probably not be a life-transforming experience. However, your life WILL be radically transformed as you experience God's faithfulness every day, as He produces the spiritual fruit of faithfulness in your life.

The motto of the US Marine Corps is "Semper Fi" (FIE), a shortened form of the Latin phrase "Semper Fidelis," which means "Always Faithful." This is a quality of character that the Marines strive to fulfill – and is also a spiritual fruit that God's people must increasingly manifest as we grow in our relationship with the Lord.

Psalm 23 declares, "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." God's abundant goodness flows to us through our Lord Jesus Christ, and the more we realize and appreciate His goodness to us, the more we will manifest His goodness to those around us.

Mark Twain once said, “Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” Well, when we manifest the spiritual fruit of goodness, we will consistently seek to do the right thing in our lives – and the Word of God teaches us exactly what the right thing is.

We sometimes speak of the "milk of human kindness" – but it seems to have spoiled and turned sour in an increasingly cruel and unkind world. Sadly, the milk of Christian kindness can taste curdled and sour to many unbelievers, when the church fails to manifest the spiritual fruit of kindness that God desires to manifest in the body of Christ.

In Titus chapter 3, the Apostle Paul writes, "When the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us … " The appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ brought God's kindness into the world – and His redemptive kindness transforms us into His change agents who then spread His kindness to our lost and dying world.

Have you ever found yourself praying, "Oh Lord, please give me patience … and give it to me NOW?" You may associate patience with everyday inconveniences like waiting in line or sitting in traffic. But a closer look at God's Word shows us that see that patience is better defined as "a focused attitude that brings endurance to all the issues of life."
