Hosts Atoya Burleson and Tia Avril are working extra hard this week by recording and re-recording the insideLINES podcast! 

Atoya and Tia jump right to this week’s “Hot Takes,” because they have a special guest that has some thoughts on the topic. That special guest is none other than Atoya’s husband, Nate Burleson.

Tia starts it off laying the topic out…and that topic is the drama between the hosts of the I am Athlete Podcast and The Pivot Podcast. I Am Athlete Podcast was started by veteran NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall alongside retired NFL stars Fred Taylor, Channing Crowder and Ryan Clark (then Reggie Wayne). The podcast was an instant success, however, we later found out that the original hosts had a disagreement regarding ownership of the highly successful show. According to Brandon, the hosts passed on the opportunity to become founding investors, and the disagreement arose when he was asked to extend the initial 25% offering despite a change in evaluation and ownership. In November 2021, Fred, Channing, and Ryan launched the highly successful The Pivot Podcast. After a neverending onslaught of back and forth disparaging remarks between the former co-hosts,  Nate, Atoya and Tia get into it and explore all the sides of the issue with some pretty interesting takes.

After Hot Takes, the ladies welcome Letha Atwater onto the pod! Letha, wife of Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Atwater (Denver Broncos), is a licensed professional and addiction counselor. The ladies chat with her about how she got into mental health counseling, what she feels the NFL needs to do to better support the mental health of their players, and how she handled a pivoting from her original dream of being a medical doctor to a full time caretaker for her family. Letha also shares her thoughts on the use of cannabis by professional players and the pressures children of athletes face.

Hosts Atoya Burleson and Tia Avril are celebrating Tia's birthday on this week's episode of the insideLINES podcast! 

First, Atoya and Tia kick off the episode with highlights from their week! Tia celebrated her birthday over the course of three days ending it with a trip to an amazing Kendrick Lamar concert! Atoya had another weekend full of travel which included picking up her daughter, Mia after a 3 week stay at an overnight camp!  

Next up in “Hot Takes," Atoya and Tia discuss the civil lawsuit filed against former NFL Buffalo Bills rookie punter Matt Araiza. Matt was drafted in the 6th round of the 2022 NFL draft, but he was released over the weekend after he was accused of taking part in the gang-rape of a 17-year old girl at an off-campus party in October 2021 while at San Diego State University. The victim claims that Matt served her alcohol with what she believes had additional substances in it and, she also claims there were 2 other individuals involved. The ladies share their thoughts on if the Bills should have released Matt prior to any criminal charges being filed or resolution of the lawsuit.

Lastly, the ladies welcome the chief of staff at Essence and founder of the MBL Boutique Experience Agency, Barkue Tubman! Barkue chats with Atoya and Tia about how she got her start in entertainment, the importance of being able to pivot, and her year of humility. She also discusses the failure she’s most proud of and why she created The Boss Lady Effect, a nonprofit dedicated to creating and empowering a global community of powerful black and brown women.

Hosts Atoya Burleson and Tia Avril are back for another episode of the insideLINES podcast! 

After a quick catch-up session, they slide right into “Hot Takes” where this week's topic is  NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson. Deshaun was accused of sexual assault and harassment in March of 2021 by 30 women in Texas. After retired judge Sue Robinson issued a 6game suspension, the NFL appealed the decision, and Watson received an 11-game suspension, an $8M fine, and has to undergo professional evaluation and treatment. Tia and Atoya discuss whether the punishment fits the crime or is actually a bit too lenient.  

Then ladies then chat with sex and relationship therapist Shadeen Francis! Shadeen, who specializes in sex therapy and emotional intelligence, shares how she got into relationship work, the link between emotional intelligence and sex, and how to be more interned with your own desires. She also shares a few tips on how to spice up your love life and much more!

The ladies chat with Michelle about her debut memoir, The Other Side of Yet, where she shares how she made it through the unthinkable tragedy of her ex-husband murdering their daughter and finding the strength on the other side of “yet.” The ladies also discuss Gabrielle's Wings, a non-profit Michelle created to honor her daughter that is dedicated to giving children of color in vulnerable communities the kind of experiences, access, programs, and exposure that Gabrielle had during her life. As you may have heard, our friend Cheslie Kryst died by suicide on Sunday January 30, 2022 at the age of 30. Like many that knew her, we are devastated by this news. 

It’s hard to get our heads around this. We had her on the show just a few months ago, and she was so charming, intelligent and fun. She dropped so many gems and truly spoke to our souls. We decided to re-release our interview with her so that you could hear how amazing she is.

Also, Cheslie’s mother asked those that want to help, please make a donation to Dress for Success, an organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. The three share their thoughts on if Tom will really retire, what Giselle will do if he does NOT hang up his cleats, and if Tom Brady is truly the GOAT!

Finally, the ladies welcome journalist and TV host Cari Champion to the show! A former ESPN Sports Center and First Take anchor,  Cari chats with the ladies about how she got her start in journalism and co-hosting the shows Stick to Sports with her good friend Jemele Hill and her podcast Naked with Cari Champion. She shares why she started her foundation, Brown Girls Dream, a program created as an informal support system for high potential young women of color. Cari also discusses the importance of depicting black stories more accurately, why she left ESPN, and much more!

The user saw that the front passenger sent a message stating that they were POSITIVE for covid and yet still boarded the plane. Atoya and Tia share their thoughts on the situation and, believe it or not, they don't entirely agree on this one! 

Finally, Atoya and Tia welcome Davontay Moore to the show! Davontay is the fiance to Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Damarcus Robinson and co-owner of Snap House Photography Studio and Event Space in Tampa, FL. She chats with the ladies about how being a “military” child prepared her for the hustle and bustle of relocating due to the unknown placement of professional athletes, making it through an extended hospital stay after going into premature labor at the start of the pandemic, and overcoming relationship challenges that arouse after becoming parents! She also reveals her interest in potentially “dipping her toe” in the sports agency pond in the future!
