When Ray Scott released his debut project "My Kind of Music" on Warner Brothers in 2005, it looked like his career had jumped into high gear. Unfortunately, he became a victim to label reorganization, and had to start over again. Ray released his second project "Rayality" last summer, and his new single "Those Jeans" is garnering attention nationwide. We had a chance to check in with Ray to see how his career is back on the right track. Here's Kelly with more.
Lee and Elaine Roy have a very special place in their hearts for children of all ages. They've been involved with Compassion International, helping to make a difference for kids in other countries, but now they are helping to impact lives right here in Middle Tennessee. The sibling bluegrass duo hosted the second annual Christmas 4 Kids celebrity golf tournament in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. We had a chance to check in with a few of the golfers before the teed off to find out why they are involved in this organization.
We kick off another Inside Music Row with the mention of Lonestar as they are releasing "Life As We Know It" this week. It is the groups first album since the return of vocalist Richie McDonald. Up next is Travis Tritt as he is bringing his 15 year-old daughter, Tyler Reese, into the recording business. The two recorded "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough," which releases on Father's Day. Hit songwriter Scotty Emerick is mentioned next as he has been honored by BMI with several "Million-Air" Awards. Also in the news is Rascal Flatts as they are teaming up with Journey to co-headline a one-night-only concert in Hershey, Pennsylvania - look for The Band Perry and Cassadee Pope to join them as special guests. Zac Brown Band's "Southern Ground Music and Food Festival" has revealed an all-star lineup for the 2013 Nashville event. Kenny Chesney, John Fogerty, Jason Mraz, Willie Nelson, Eli Young Band, Kacey Musgraves are just some of the guests lined up for the two-day festival in late September on the Lawn at Riverfront Park. Finally, we go Inside the Song with Vickie McGeehee to hear about a song she co-wrote called "How Country Feels" which Randy Houser took all the way to number one.
Scarletta is a hot new trio that got started here in Nashville a few years ago. Aubrey Collins, Beji Harris, and Nathan Stoops have been writing and performing together to help tighten their sound, and it is paying off. We had a chance to check in with the group downtown at the new Listening Room on the set of their music video for "Island Fever."
Bonnaroo has quickly emerged as the festival of choice across all genres of music. While many events focus on a certain type of music, Bonnaroo treats its fans to a wide range of artists. Just a short drive from Nashville, music lovers can see the likes of Paul McCartney, Mumford and Sons, Tom Petty, Wilco, and many more. Now before the Bonnaroonies arrive in full force, we wanted to see what imporvements fans can expect to see on this former farm in Manchester, Tennessee.
We all know Bill Ray Cyrus from hit monster hit "Achy Breaky Heart," and as the father of actress and pop star Miley Cyrus. Few might really know him as a person, and the heart that he has when it comes to helping our nation's troops. His 13th studio album "Change My Mind" was initially released nationwide last fall, but now he's partnered up with Buffets, Incorporated to offer that CD at an unbelievable price point. Proceeds from the project will help support the Armed Service YMCA for Operation Outdoors, a camp program that assists the children of military personnel during deployment. We had a chance to catch up with Billy Ray at the Ryans Buffet in Lebanon, Tennessee, to learn more.
We kick off another Inside Music Row with the mention of Kenny Chesney. We all know Kenny is quite fond of the Virgin Islands, and spends a great deal of time there, so it's no surprise that he is donating proceeds from his new "Life On A Rock" album to "Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park." The Roys are up next as they are going full throttle with their new single and title track of their new album, "Gypsy Runaway Train." Also in the news is "Everybody Has A Story" - a new musical collaboration with patients form Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital and music row superstars. Through thte last six years, patiets in clinical music therapy sessions have written songs as they were being treated for a variety of illnesses. Artists like Kix Brooks, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Faith Hill, and Phil Vassar have lent their voices to bring these tracks to life. We also mention the return of "Dancin' In The District" - the series will be called "Nashville Dancin' presented by Dollar General" and will be family-friendly out on the riverfront with free parking at LP Field. Look for the series to kick off June 13th. Finally, we go Inside The Song with Ben Hayslip to hear about a hit song he co-wrote for Rodney Atkins called "Farmer's Daughter."
Lenny Cooper is not your typical country cowboy hat act. He's enjoyed a different lifestyle growing up in North Carolina, and posted his first video about his favorite pastime of mud bogging online. That video has gone viral, and he's now seen firsthand that he's not the only one that enjoys getting dirty. His new album and video "Mud Dynasty" was released earlier this noth on Average Joe's, so Kelly Lynn caught up with him to hear about the new music.
Jagermeister has been a strong supporter of country music, and last year's tour with Randy Houser and Rick Monroe was a huge hit. This year, Rick is hitting the road again with Aaron Lewis with Jager signed on as tour sponsor. We had a chance to sit down with Rick at Two Old Hippies here in Nashville to talk about the tour and his new single "Just The Same."
The country music industry is still mourning the death of one of the greatest singers of all time. George Jones passed away last month here in Nashville, but his memory and music will continue to live on in our hearts. We had an opportunity to catch up with George at his 80th birthday celebration downtown in the fall of 2011. We'd like to pay tribute to him now by revisiting that very special day.
