Christopher M. Palmer, MD, is a Harvard psychiatrist and researcher working at the interface of metabolism and mental health. He is the director of the Department of Postgraduate and Continuing Education at McLean Hospital and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. For more than two decades, he has held leadership roles in psychiatric education at Harvard, McLean Hospital, and nationally. He spent more than fifteen years conducting neuroscience research in the areas of substance use and sleep disorders. On top of these academic pursuits, he has continued to practice psychiatry, working with people who have treatment-resistant mental disorders using a variety of standard treatments. He has been pioneering the use of the medical ketogenic diet in the treatment of psychiatric disorders—conducting research in this area, treating patients, publishing academic articles, and speaking globally on this topic. Most recently, he has developed the first comprehensive theory of what causes mental illness, integrating biological, psychological, and social research into one unifying theory—the brain energy theory of mental illness.

In Season 6, Episode 6 of Inside the Labyrinth Podcast powered by the Non-Profit Reps For Responders, Frank and Jay had the honor and privilege to speak with Joseph Lanzone. Jason estimated he has recorded around 200 podcasts and this is his favorite. Joe and Jay get real VAULNERABLE here. We are not so different. This episode is an absolute MUST listen. Joe states "From my youth in dairy country, Wyoming County, NY, I have always been aware of the mission of service to others. "Love thy neighbor" was the guiding factor in my journey to college, graduate school and a long career in Clinical Social Work. The specializations of addiction and trauma have been the focus of my vocation for the past 40 years. As a recovering alcoholic and trauma survivor, I strongly empathize with having a brain that, when triggered, seems to have a mind of its own. I worked in Municipal Substance Abuse Counseling Centers in Rockland County, NY for 25 years : in offices, schools and on the streets of an extremely diverse population. My take-away is that our perceived differences can in no way eclipse our sameness as human beings: we all need COMPASSION. My 20 years as an Adjunct Professor at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service and my 34 years in private practice (now in Nyack, NY) all echo the same message that resonated in the cornfields of my childhood: We are all one human race - our lives are on loan - our job is to love and care through service - and our Employer creates the results! It is my honor to be a Reps for Responders volunteer, assisting all and any First Responders in need of support." We hope you guys enjoy this powerful episode and know that recovery is possible for anyone. @reps_for_responders @therealjumpmanjay @inside_the_lab_podcast https://repsforresponders.org Youtube: Reps For Responders

In this episode we hit A LOT of topics such as nutrition, lifting, recovery and addiction. Cristina is a spouse of a Law Enforcement Officer. She's a health and wellness coach, a recovery coach and the VP of Reps For Responders. In 2020, she founded a community for the partners of addiction called Relationships and Recovery, a space where they could connect with others who 'get it', seek support and ask for advice. She hosts weekly meetings and has a private Facebook group. Her favorite quote is "shame dies when stories are told in a safe space", and that is one of communities missions: to help people shed their shame and guilt around addiction and the roles they've managed to take on as a caregiver, and possibly even an enabler. Through that, she expanded her community to offer health and wellness coaching to empower women impacted by substance abuse to prioritize themselves through selfcare and focusing on their wants and needs through goal setting and accountability. This episode takes us through Cristina's journey from her early high school days, her experience on the sports fields to weightlifting and how fitness has carried her through some of her most vulnerable and difficult moments in life, ultimately bring her to where she is now. Cristina talks about how she's grateful for some of her darker moments, for those are the ones that made her who she is today- compassionate, empathetic, and self-aware. She leads by examples and share that "someday you will tell your story about how you overcame what you are going through right now, and it will become part of someone else's survival guide". Thank you Cristina for your bravery, courage and honesty!
