  • The Third Mrs. Galway with Deirdre Sinnott
This week, I have a special treat for you. Stick around to the end of the episode to hear an excerpt from my special guest’s debut novel, read by the author herself.
Deirdre Sinnott is an author, researcher, and activist for social change. She grew up in Utica, New York, and graduated from Syracuse University. Sinnott speaks nationally about the role of Central New York’s residents in the abolition of slavery. She is a historical consultant for the Fort Stanwix Underground Railroad History Project, funded by the National Park Service. The Third Mrs. Galway is her first novel.
The Third Mrs. Galway is a historical novel sent in Utica in 1835. The action begins when a young bride discovers an enslaved family hiding in her shed, setting in motion the exhumation of long-buried family secrets. Suddenly, she is at the center of not only the era’s greatest moral dilemma, but her own as well. Should she be a “good wife” and report the fugitives to her husband? Or will she defy convention and come to their aid. The novel won The Writers Lounge 2021 Bookshelf Award and was chosen by the Women’s National Book Association as one of their 2021 Great Group Reads.

  • What's Your Excuse with Maxwell Ivey
This weeks episode is one I’ve waited for quite awhile to present to you. My special guest is a fellow blind podcaster, author and he helps his clients make guest appearances on other podcasts. Sit back, relax, watch and listen as Max shares his journey from carnival kid to blogger, author, and podcast host.
Maxwell Ivey grew up in a family of carnival owners. He started losing his vision to retinitis pigmentosa at an early age becoming legally blind by junior high school and totally blind by the time he graduated from college. He did graduate from traditional schools, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and worked in the family business until his dad’s death forced the closure of their small show. Needing something new he started helping people sell surplus rides. He had to learn so much including how to hand code html, recruit clients, set fees, build an email list, manage social media, and more. People were inspired by his willingness to take on difficult challenges and encouraged him to share more about being a blind entrepreneur. That lead to a second site as the blind blogger, with three books out so far and a fourth due any time. He’s promoted himself through podcast interviews appearing on over 200 shows as well as public speaking where he has shared his inspiring story with local organizations and national conferences. He helps other creative entrepreneurs grow their brands through online interviews. He loves to sing, travel, and find new adventures. If you have questions, just ask.

  • Lois Letchford gives the gift of reading to children with learning disabilities
My special guest shares her passion for teaching children with learning disabilities how to read. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our lively conversation about reading in its many forms.
Lois Letchford’s dyslexia came to light at the age of 39, when she faced teaching her seven-year-old non-reading son, Nicholas. Examining her reading failure caused her to adapt and change lessons for her son. The results were dramatic. Lois qualified as a reading specialist to use her non-traditional background, multi-continental experience and passion to assist other failing students. Her teaching and learning have equipped her with a unique skill set and perspective. As a teacher, she considers herself a “literacy problem-solver.”
Reversed: A Memoir is her first book. In this story, she details her dyslexia and the journey of her son’s dramatic failure in first grade. She tells of the twist and turns that promoted her passion and her son’s dramatic academic turn-a-round - as in 2018 he received his Ph.D.
