  • Securing the Data Center – Intel® Chip Chat episode 324
Jim Greene, a product marketing engineer focused on server security technologies at Intel, stops by to talk about his book: Intel Trusted Execution Technology for Server Platforms: A Guide to More Secure Datacenters. Jim has agreed to give away autographed copies of the book to the first 5 people that follow @techallyson on Twitter and tweet her for a copy. Jim also discusses how to stay ahead of emerging threats: 1. Increase your ability to detect attacks (be it on the networks or malware) via sensors and analytics? 2. Increase your protections to protect data and harden the platform. 3. Innovate for recovery – how do we manage the mayhem? For more information, visit www.intel.com/txt.

  • High Performance and Low Latency with Intel® SSDs – Intel® Chip Chat episode 321
Greg Matson, the director of SSD Strategic Planning and Product Marketing at Intel, discusses the launch of the Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center P3700 series, which offer extremely high performance (6 traditional hard drives = 1 SSD) for apps like big data workloads. It’s also the first set of PCI Express based SSDs with NVM Express technology, an interface for IO that’s been designed specifically for Non-Volatile Memory rather than spinning discs. Learn more at www.intel.com/ssd.

  • Using Supercomputing to Simulate Earthquakes – Intel® Chip Chat episode 320
Dr. Alexander Heinecke from the Parallel Computing Lab at Intel chats about his PRACE ISC award-winning research into earthquake simulations. The team of computer scientists, mathematicians, and geophysicists simulated vibrations comparable to an earthquake inside the Merapi volcano on the island of Java. They ran the SeiSol simulation software on the SuperMUC high performance computer, which executed 1.09 quadrillion floating point operations per second and used all of the 147,456 processor cores. Research like this, using even more powerful supercomputers, will enable further detailed simulations in a faster time, leading to deeper insights and scientific breakthroughs. • A Vision for Disrupting the Datacenter – Intel® Chip Chat episode 319
Raejeanne Skillern (@RaejeanneS), frequent Chip Chat guest and General Manager of Cloud Service Providers for Intel, stops by to talk about the digital services economy and to lay out Intel’s vision for disrupting the datacenter. The four pillars of the newly architected data center are silicon innovation (think customized silicon), moving away from the box model (pools of compute/storage/network resources with an orchestration layer), expedited service delivery, and monetizing data (realizing insight and value).
