Ever have an experience that moves you to your core?
I did a week ago with one of my podcast guests Kimblyn Harris. The display of radical compassion that she displayed to me is one that I will likely never forget.
I recorded this shortly after I broke down crying, so the emotion in my voice is raw and authentic.
Compassion is a courageous selfless act.
Compassion enables connection.
Compassion is what we need now more than ever.
Compassion is the prerequisite for us to see outside of our experience.
Black Lives Matter.
But only after we can genuinely embody compassion.
Until then, it’s just a bunch of white people scrambling to make up for, and soothe, their generational shame & guilt.
It’s okay for us to stumble our way through this - it’s the only way, in fact.
But we need to understand what true compassion is.
Until then, we’ll continue the cycle(s) of pain.
My hope is that by sharing my experience, I can pass along even a fraction of the impact that it had on me.
I humbly ask you to truly internalize this and proceed to share the message, or act, with others in a way that makes sense to you.
