In this episode Che'lyn has a conversation with Donna Rongholt-Migan; one of her earliest mentors in the field of Social Work. Donna unpacks her personal/professional journey and shares her thoughts regarding our current social landscape, equity for women and marginalized individuals, overcoming adversities, cultural truths as a Japanese/American woman, the joys and challenges of balancing leadership/career and motherhood/parenthood, international adoption and the complexities of life.
Donna Rongholt-Migan is licensed as an Independent Clinical Social Worker and has earned a graduate certificate in nonprofit management. With over 30 years of nonprofit leadership and private practice experience, Donna has led the Cathedral Center, Inc. as their first, permanent Executive Director since 2003. She has also served youth & families in crisis, those who suffer from mental health issues and addictions, neighborhoods in need, ‘at risk’ youth, as well as individuals and families in recovery. Her most rewarding professional experiences have always included serving women and families, understanding that empowering one person will have significant positive impacts on many more.
The Cathedral Center’s mission is to provide a safe environment for women and families, while working to end homelessness – one life at a time. CCI pursues this mission through emergency shelter services for up to 32 women and 8 families and an additional 4 women and 8 families through the new Friendship House emergency and transitional housing program. Because emergency shelter alone does not end homelessness, CCI also provides comprehensive case management services using a prevention and early intervention model, as well as support during and after a shelter stay. CCI’s Women’s Independence Program focuses on personal skills and employment as a solution, while the Friendship House program serves as a longer term bridge to permanent housing, via their Flexible Housing model.

In part one of this episode Che’lyn has a candid conversation with HBCU alumni / Oakwood University graduates, Dr. Compton Ross, Dr. Lanston Sylvester and Pastor James Owens. These men of faith and change agents in pastoral leadership share their personal/ professional paths to their calling / purpose in ministry and evangelism. They share how COVID-19 and the current social climate has been a catalyst for a shift in their approach to pastoring their congregations. They discuss the stereotypes and perceptions of ministers and they explore reasons there are challenges balancing family/ministries and executing personal boundaries. They also discuss the impact of social media/online platforms, competition, comparison culture and the impact/challenges of exposing vulnerabilities in a pastoral leadership. Dr. Ross, Dr. Sylvester and Pastor Owens, also share insights on the importance of integrity, commitment and growth in marriage/family as husbands/fathers and the rewards of cultivating and supporting the dreams/interest of their spouses, in addition to having a safe space and sustaining wellness while addressing mental/physical/emotional and spiritual health.

February 18, 2021 Redefining the Paradigm of Perfection with Dr. Steven Bailey
On this episode Che’lyn has a conversation with Dr. Steven Bailey, a highly sought after board certified Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Bailey who is a proud HBCU alumnus of Morehouse College and Meharry Medical College, discusses his personal and professional journey. He also shares his insights regarding comparison culture, the media’s influence on an unhealthy motivations and drive for perfection. He also shares his knowledge/ expertise on current trends and best practices cosmetic/aesthetic plastic surgery.
Dr. Bailey had the privilege of training at some of the most rigorous, high volume institutions in the country. He completed a General Surgery Residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital. During his seven year training program he completed two years of research in the Plastic Surgery Department publishing several peer reviewed articles, winning awards for scientific research from the American Burn Association, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, and American Association of Plastic Surgeons.
After completing General Surgery residency, Dr. Bailey became a highly sought after candidate for a Plastic Surgery Fellowship, interviewing at many of the top tier training programs across the country. He chose to attend the number one plastic surgery training program in the country and remained at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas Texas. Dr. Bailey was exposed to every aspect of aesthetic and reconstructive plastics surgery and trained directly with many of the innovators and thought leaders in modern plastic surgery.
