  • Liberia's anti-graft body says Weah undermining fight against corruption
The Head of Liberia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), James Verdier, has accused the government of President George Weah of undermining the fight against corruption.
Corruption is said to be one of the root causes that lead to the outbreak of the 14 years civil crisis in that West African Nation in 1990. An estimated 250,000 people died in that conflict.
Weah became President after two unsuccessful bids against former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, promising to end corruption.

  • International report - Providing justice to people in Ethiopia's Somali Regional State
Ethiopia's political landscape has changed since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took office in April 2018 – particularly in the east of the country, in the Somali Regional State, or Ogaden.
The once powerful president Abdi Mohamed Omar, aka “Abdi Illey”, was removed last August with the help of the federal security forces. The former majority Tigrayan leadership in Addis Ababa used to be a strong support for his regime of terror.
Now there is a new president, Mustafa Muhumed, whose first priority will have to be providing justice for the people.

A discovery that’s particularly affected farmers.
Claire Rush has this second report from the rural village of Houdelaucourt-sur-Othain

  • International report - 100 years after WWI, unexploded bombs linger in northern France, pt 1
France’s northern and north-eastern regions were devastated by World War I. So much so, that after the armistice the government declared large swathes of it a “red zone” – off-limits for habitation and agriculture.
The former battlefield of Verdun is part of this zone.
It was there that some 300,000 soldiers were killed in just 10 months in 1916.
And a century later, it is still littered with unexploded ammunition. A public safety issue that brings regional mine-clearing experts and forest rangers to the site every day.
Correspondent Claire Rush has this first report from the Red Zone near Verdun.

  • International report - Who are the Palestinians facing eviction in East Jerusalem?
Nearly 700 Palestinians in East Jerusalem may soon face house eviction procedures. This after the Israeli High Court rejected their appeal which argued against the method of transfer of ownership of a plot of land to the right-wing settlers group Ateret Cohanim.
Critics say Ateret Cohanim explicitly works to change the demographics of East Jerusalem in favor of a Jewish majority.
The plot of land in question was the site of a Jewish neighbourhood up until 1938, but its inhabitants were removed during the height of a Palestinian revolt against British mandate policies.
Under Israeli law only Jews can reclaim properties lost in the 1948 conflict, but the same law does not apply to Palestinians.
Correspondent Ibrahim Husseini reports from Silwan:

A project by India’s National Highways Authority to build a massive road across an urban forest in Gurgaon, a suburb next to the national capital, has residents up in arms. They say it will disrupt the area’s rich biodiversity.
The Aravali biodiversity park is a forest, stretching over 380 acres, showcasing abundant flora. It is also a pristine habitat for hundreds of species of birds and animals like civet cats and jackals.
When the highway authority and the Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority proposed to build a 2 kilometer highway through the park recently, it led to protests and anger.
