Sonia, Peter, Paul and Andrea join us on Intersexions to explore just a few of the challenges that people with Klinefelters Syndrome deal with on a daily basis.
Reproductive health is a concern for most young couples, and sometimes interventions are required. For many couples IVF is a necessary pathway to conception. But when you live in a heterosexual relationship and find yourself in a situation where you are told that you are socially infertile because your partner was born with Klinefelters Syndrome, just reveals how discriminatory the health system can be. The LGBT community have felt the brunt of this discrimination, but this discrimination extends to heterosexual couples as well costing in some circumstances many tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket just because they were born with an intersex variant.
Challenging medical protocols, the one size fits all. Many individuals find they need to educate their medical practitioners. Klinefelter Syndrome is one of the most common birth defects listed in medical journals yet it is one of the least recognized or understood conditions.
