Portland is a city that, as evidenced by being home to one of the greatest independent bookstores in the country, has a long love of reading. On today's show we welcome Andrew Proctor, Executive Director of Literary Arts, who are most widely known for presenting the Portland Arts and Lectures Series at the Arlene Schnitzer as well as the annual Wordstock Festival. Since early in 2015 we've had the pleasure of hearing the insights and interviews of the Nonprofit Hour's co-host Julie Falk but we are sad to say that, due to the demands of her numerous other commitments in our community, she has informed us that she will no longer be able to continue with our show. We have greatly enjoyed having Julie as a part of the team and have benefited from viewpoints and perspectives she has shared with us and it is with that thought that we dedicate today's show to her. First up we will be hearing the final interview that she recorded for us with SAGE Metro Portland which is a program run through Friendly House that gives support to elders of Portland's LGBT community in transitioning through different stages and experiences of aging. In the second half of the show we will listen to a conversation with Emily Evans of the Women's Foundation of Oregon -- an organization that Julie Falk also served a pivotal role within during the same time that she has been with us on our program. We wish JUlie all the best and are glad to know that a person of her caliber will be involved in vital police accountability issues in the future through her role on the Portland Citizen Review Committee.

In the second half of the show we have a conversation with Elizabeth Nye of Girls Inc of the Pacific Northwest -- an organization that was built on the foundation of over a century of history of Girls Clubs that has evolved to become a place that inspires girls, ages 6-18, to be strong, smart, and bold with gender-specific programs that provide girls with the confidence and self-esteem to access a bright and economically-independent future.

Up first though Phil Busse spoke with Dr. Phil Marshall about Oregon Crusaders -- the Pacific Northwest's premiere drum and bugle corps. They are an organization with roots tracing back to 1971 that gives young people an opportunity to gain an education in a powerful, althletic and aritistic performance medium and present their works to audiences around the country such as on their current 14,000 mile tour.
