Two groups supporting kids' arts and music education. First up is Joshua Davis of Michigan nonprofit On Stage 4 Kids and 2015 finalist for The Voice talking about the importance of music in childrens' development, the influence of a visit to the Palestinian West Bank on his lastest album and his personal connection between music performance and social activism. In the second half we speak with Adam Goodwin of Ethos about their 20 year history of teaching the value of music and outreach to communities both urban and rural. In the nonprofit news we hear from Mary Peveto of Neighbors for Clean Air about recent and ongoing concerns about air quality in Southeast and other Portland neighborhoods and legislative action in the state capitol.

We also cover Governor Kate Brown's proposal to the state legislature for raising the state minimum wage and hear reactions from the Nonprofit Association of Oregon and Hacienda CDC.

In the second half of the show Phil Busse will be speaking to Scott Lewis, executive director of the Northwest dance project, which has been creating innovative and provocative contemporary dance performances in Portland for the last 11 years and passes on its legacy to future generations through its dance education programs.

But first Phil speaks to Roben White and Katie Anderson, Executive Director of the Clark County Historical Museum about an upcoming exhibit that they have opening in February called One November Morning. The exhibit features emotionally compelling pieces created by Native American artists in representation of the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 where more than 150 Cheyenne and Arapaho people were massacred in Colorado. Artists represented at the exhibit are descendants of the victims at Sand Creek and their work focuses on the remembrance, honor and strength of their ancestors and leaders.
