Ed is explaining to Shaheen about the plan for the remaining three emeralds.“She’ll tell you where they can be found. You’ll never hear from her again,” says Ed, explaining Diana’s role in the scheme. “Then, you wait for the call with me,” says Shaheen, “as long as it takes.” “No,” replies Ed. “She makes the call when we’re reunited. When I’m safe, too.” Shaheen laughs. “You expect me to believe you won’t take the other half?” “Good faith,” says Ed. “We could have taken them all.”“How do you know she has not already run away? Left you behind, with me?” says Shaheen.Ed ponders for a moment. “I don’t,” he replies. “It’s a risk we’ll both have to take.”“This girl,” says Shaheen, “goes with anyone who takes care of her. She gives herself away, like a fool. She has nothing of her own – only what’s give, or what she takes. This is a foolish risk.”“Right now, there’s really no choice,” replies Ed.“For you, maybe,” says Shaheen. At the Flower Mart, Diana ties a velvet bag of emeralds to a bouquet of roses. “Aren’t they beautiful?” asks the florist as Diana sniffs the roses.

Shaheen and Ed are seated across from one another, while Shaheen’s men watch.“Whose good faith?” asks Shaheen. “Yours, and mine,” replies Ed.“Where are the other three?” asks Shaheen.“Diana’s hiding them as we speak,” explains Ed.“Hiding them where?” asks Shaheen.“I don’t know,” replies Ed.“And I should believe that?” asks Shaheen. Her men continue to eat pistachios.Meanwhile, at the Los Angeles Flower Market, Diana walks past rows of cut flowers. She stops at the stand for the Yakamura Nursery (phone 555-7034).“Can I help you?” asks the florist.Back at Shaheen’s mansion, Ed continues to explain the plan for the remaining emeralds.“Wherever they are right now, it’ll be somewhere where they can be discovered by anyone, or can be destroyed, so we don’t have much time,” says Ed.A SAVAK man eats another pistachio.“Do you have the money?” asks Ed. Shaheen sighs. Her men eat more pistachios.Back at the Yakamura Florist stand, Diana has stacked at least a dozen bouquets of roses.“At this bulk, Miss Bailey, I can give you a very good price,” says the florist.“Whatever it costs,” says Diana, “You only get married once!” she smiles.At Shaheen’s mansion, Ed continues.“Only when she’s sure about her safety,” says Ed, “she’ll call.”

The SAVAK crew continues to frisk Ed in front of the Ferrari. The SAVAK man with glasses finds three of the perfect emeralds.“Those are not for you!” says Ed.At the front door, Shaheen asks, “Are they for me?”The four SAVAK men lead Ed around the pool and fountain to the front door. They walk down a hallway. Ed glances into a dining room, and sees three men eating a meal at the dining room table.Ed looks the other way, and sees Shaheen surrounded by seven men and another woman. One of the men gestures to Ed and says something in Farsi.Meanwhile, in Mrs. Caper’s Rolls-Royce, Diana drives somewhere near East 8th St., in central Los Angeles.Back at Shaheen’s mansion, the four SAVAK men are seated next to each other, eating pistachios from a giant serving bowl.Shaheen sits in a chair opposite Ed, while five other men stand or sit behind them. A stuffed peacock is positioned to the right of Shaheen.“But, only three?” asks Shaheen, holding the three perfect emeralds in her hand.“For good faith,” explains Ed.

Ed drives away in the Ferrari. Larry turns to Diana. “You gotta go,” he says through wired teeth. “Mrs. Caper is really pissed off.”Diana looks at the line of luxury cars. “Which one is Mrs Caper’s car?” Larry rolls his eyes. In front of the walled entrance to Trousdale Estates, a sign reads “AREA PATROLLED BY PRIVATE ARMED GUARDS 24 HOURS A DAY.” Ed pulls up to the entrance, looks at a piece of paper, and heads into the open gate. Ed parks in front of the Persian-styled California mansion. Two of the SAVAK men pull their guns and aim them at Ed, while the SAVAK agent with glasses opens the driver-side door. The fourth SAVAK agent pulls Ed out of the car.  The two agents on the driver’s side pat down Ed. “I’m not armed!” says Ed. Shaheen, a tall woman wearing a long, flowing red vest, watches from the front door of the mansion. The SAVAK men continue to frisk Ed.

Diana hugs Jack, kisses him on the cheek, and says, “Bye. I’ll miss you.”“Take care, Peach,” says Jack.“I will,” says Diana. She sighs. “Can we borrow a car?”In the front driveway of the Caper Mansion, line of six different luxury cars are lined up. “Mister Caper said take any car you want,” says Larry, through a wired jaw. “This is nice,” says Ed, pointing at a 1983  Ferrari Mondial QV. “Keys are inside,” explains Larry. Ed climbs into the car and adjusts the mirror.“Be careful, huh?” says Diana, putting her hand on Ed’s shoulder.“See you at the airport,” says Ed. “Okay,” says Diana. Ed starts the car and turns on the headlights. “Banzai!” says Ed, giving Diana a thumbs-up sign.  Diana smiles. He drives away.

“You’re going to have to negotiate with Shaheen,” says Jack. “Negotiate?” asks Ed.“Offer to sell her the stones,” replies Jack. “She’ll understand that.”“What about the Frenchman?” asks Ed. “What Frenchman?” asks Jack.“Someone else who wants to kill us,” replies Ed. “Well, whoever he is, he can’t possibly be as dangerous as Shaheen,” replies Jack.“What do we do?” says Ed. “Go around by my office,” says Jack, “The number’s on the Rolodex. Shaheen Parvesi.”“Parvesi, right” repeats Ed. He looks at Diana. “I’ll just wait outside.”Diana mouths “ok.” Ed leaves. Diana sits next to Jack on the bed.  “You get out of the country, and start again,” says Jack. “This’ll probably be the best thing that ever happened to you, Peach.”“I thought you hated me,” says Diana. She leans into Jack, and kisses his forehead. They hug.

Jack, in his hospital bed, talks strategy with Ed and Diana. “He needed money in a hurry, and he used you to get ’em into the country,” says Jack. “That little s—.”“People have been trying to kill me, too,” says Diana.“Yeah, Larry told me about the men in the boat,” says Jack. “Must be Shaheen.”“Hasi’s aunt?” asks Diana.“Did you ever meet her?” asks Jack. Diana shakes her head. “Hard as nails,” says Jack. “She’s got a deal in escrow – major development downtown. Escrow closes in a week and she’s got to come up with a bundle. She called me for a short-term loan – a big one. But I didn’t need the headache. She mentioned that she might take Hasi in as a partner if he could raise enough cash. She had to know about the stones.”Ed, who’s been listening to this explanation, interrupts. “Wait a minute, wait a minute – this is all about a real estate deal?”“She can have them. I’ll keep my mouth shut,” says Diana. “This is about a real estate deal?” repeats Ed. “Honey, you know enough to get them locked up or deported..” says Jack.“My wife sells real estate,” says Ed to himself. “…not to mention blackmail and murder,” continues Jack. “It’s not just the stones anymore.”

Mrs Caper looks at Diana and Ed, then turns to Larry. “They’re trespassing!” says Mrs. Caper. “Get them out – – if they won’t leave, call the police!”“Larry,” says Jack, “Disregard that.”Mrs. Caper glares at Jack, then turns and glares at Diana. “You are endangering his life!” says Mrs. Caper. “Get her out, Larry,” says Jack, about Mrs. Caper.  Larry looks at Mrs. Caper nervously. Mrs Caper continues to glare at Diana. “Whoever you are, or think you are… there have been a dozen, just like you!” says Mrs. Caper. She continues to glare at Diana, then Ed, and then exits the room, with Larry trailing behind her. Diana turns to Jack. “I’m sorry,” she says, “I didn’t mean to come here.”“Better hurry and tell me the problem,” says Jack. “Hasi’s dead,” says Diana. “Hasi’s dead?” asks Jack.“Yeah,” says Diana. “Hamid, too.”“How?” asks Jack.“Hasi sent me to Zurich to get some stones out of a safe deposit box. They were left to him.”

Diana looks at Jack Caper, who is laying in a hospital bed. “Are you in, uh, in pain? Or..” asks Diana. “I can’t even get any interesting drugs!” replies Jack. Ed looks on, unsure of where to look. “It’s good to see you, Peach,” says Jack, smiling. “I couldn’t figure out what Joan was doing here,” says Diana. “I had no idea.”“After years of compulsive spending, she’s finally taken an interest in estate planning,” says Jack. She smiles. “Did she tell you I called?” asks Diana. “When?” asks Jack. Diana shakes her head. “When! Jack, I’ve been trying to get ahold of you for six months!” replies Diana. “It’s Joan,” says Jack, “That b*tch – – she’s very thorough.” Jack nods toward Ed. “Who’s this?” asks Jack. “Oh, um, Ed Okin,” replies Diana. “Really got myself into some trouble and uh well, he’s the only one I’ve been able to count on.” Mrs. Caper and Larry enter the room. Larry is showing signs of the aftermath of his run-in with SAVAK, as he’s wearing a neck brace and has multiple contusions. “What is this?” demands Mrs. Caper. “It’s an orgy,” replies Jack.

Ed and Diana walk past the fountain in the Caper Mansion’s piazza, and open a sliding French door. Inside the mansion, Diana leads the way into a room with red walls. An old man in a hospital bed reads a book, while assorted medical monitors and equipment line both sides of the bed. “Jack?” says Diana. Jack removes his reading glasses and smiles at Diana. “Jack, what’s happened to you?” asks Diana. “Oh, they say my blood’s gone bad on me,” replies Jack. “I’m buying it by the case, like champagne.”
