The brokenness of the carnal recruitment processes of the world is reflected in the recruitment processes (and adverts) of the Church.

What do we include in our person specification for a church leader?

We include at least these 14 points in our personal specification for a church leader:

1. A man who is able to describe personal cost associated with their stand for the Gospel;

2. A man who is able to describe personal repentance and specific examples
of their change of mind recently;

3. A man who is able to describe relationships as well as estrangements;

4. A man who is able to describe their urgent burden for the lost;

5. A man who is NOT popular with everyone;

6. A man who even has enemies;

7. A man who has been ostracised;

8. A man whose stand for doctrinal clarity has been personally costly;

9. A man who can describe turning down an opportunity to alleviate pain,
ultimately declining out of conviction;

10. A man who is calling the Church to repentance as a Body and not only
individual members;

11. A man who is willing to relocate, to be disrupted, including family/children/job;

12.  A man whose testimony is radically different post-2020 cf. pre-2020;

13. A man who sings/praises God every day;

14. A man who weeps for the state the Church and the glory of His Name.

How do church pastors and elders typically think about the all-important church closures of March 2020? Where are the fault lines that result from a lack of wisdom and 'prophetic knowledge'?

"Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint..." (Proverbs 29:18)

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children." (Hosea 4:6)

Gandalf said, "Swords are no more use here!" on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring to emphasize that the creature they were facing, Durin's Bane, was a foe beyond their collective skill and physical weapons. He meant that their swords were useless against this powerful being, a demon of shadow and flame, and that they needed to flee, not fight.

Following on from the significant events in London over the last weekend, you can read Nick's blog article (and see related videos) here. 

As we sat down this evening to read and pray, Nick was prompted to record this impromptu episode of the podcast to appeal to 'all who will hear' about the dangers of a great British confluence — that of the apostate British churches blending with the vast unsaved/unchurched population of the nation. It is surely a Corinthian river of spiritual lukewarmness.

What of this juncture in world and church history really? Have we not profoundly underestimated the pivotal importance of clarifying true doctrine from false? What of this place of reformatory opportunity that we are standing at?

As we prayed and read Acts chapter 21 this morning, like Paul in Acts chapter 17 v 16, we were provoked by the immaturity of the behaviour of the men involved. 

Paul walked bow-legged because of the extreme suffering that he endured (the marks of the Lord Jesus Christ, no less — Galatians 6:17) and yet he was wrongly accused of being false by immature Christians who would essentially have no clue whatsoever as to what Paul was called to walk through. To make matters worse, the senior leaders of the Jerusalem church did not sufficiently support him, nor honour him, but rather made him jump through hoops made up of the traditions of men. 

We are now being very honest about the path to which we have been called. In the natural, were an oxen muzzled as it worked hard under its burden, it would eventually grow faint and collapse. The Lord often used analogies from nature like this, (falling birds of the sky, fading flowers of the field, fish, eggs given to little children), precisely in order to highlight the INFINITE difference in value between an animal and a covenant child of God. This is exactly the case in the passages I highlight in tonight’s video and regarding which, once again, Mairi and I offer very robust and honest thoughts, including from our personal  life, submitted to the Body of Christ at large.

In this video, Nick walks us through the further false accusations levelled at Paul, (of apparent hypocrisy,) and shows how it was far from being hypocrisy that led Paul to join the other four Jewish Christians in having his head shaved. 

Mairi also shares very openly as to where a road of multi-faceted suffering has led us.
