Marika Stimac, certified life coach, is passionate about coaching people into improving their financial confidence so they can take advantage of opportunities they never thought possible. Marika’s passion about helping others awaken to their upgraded financial vision came through her own experience walking this path and successfully navigating the 40 key steps found in her book.

Marika currently lives in frosty Canada with her husband, two teenage daughters, and two Havanese dogs (who are often more challenging to raise than her kids!). Before settling there, she spent nine years in Dubai and three years in Croatia as an expatriate. Her passions include adventurous girls-only trips, family vacationing, investing in real estate, and constantly challenging herself (such as becoming an author!). She is working toward her AFCC® certification to further help clients better manage their financial vision.

I don’t have a lot of clothes, I have a capsule wardrobe. I also have a book club and have read a book every month for 6 years.

4. What is one actionable tip or piece of advice that you can tell our moms out there to help them on their financial independence journey?

If you need a place to start with budgeting, and you need a beautiful pretty spreadsheet to inspire you, go to my Etsy shop and grab my Deluxe planner and fill out your numbers. This is going to give you what you need to do step 1 to feel financially confident. Give yourself some time because it will take over an hour. However, if you do it, it will give you a total different perspective on your spending, of what is happening with your money. Even if you don’t like budgeting, just do it at least once.

Shang and her family live in NYC and became work optional when she was 31. They are high-income earners who lived way below their means for many years before starting a family. She’s overcome a birth defect that impacted her speech, work challenges, and infertility for many years. She’s worked extremely hard to get to where she is today, especially since both of her parents and grandparents grew up in poverty.  Shang has appeared on Forbes, Fox, and The New York Post.

1. What is one fun fact about you that not that many people know?

I don’t like chocolate.

2. Who inspires you the most and why?

I think you can draw inspiration from many people over time but the person that inspires me the most is my father. He and I didn’t always see eye to eye when I was a kid, but I am so in awe and so inspired by how hard he worked to pull his family out of poverty and brought me out with him.

3. What books are you reading now or have read and loved that you’d recommend?

Bringing up Bebe by Pamela Drukerman and After the Flood by Kassandra Montag

4. What is one actionable tip or piece of advice that you can tell our moms out there to help them on their financial independence journey?

You can do hard things. If you can bring up a child, you can do personal finance. Just take one day at a time like you took motherhood one day at a time.

1. What is one fun fact about you that not that many people know?

I used to compete in bodybuilding competitions.

2. Who inspires you the most and why?

Currently, the person that is inspiring me most is James Clear with his book Atomic Habits I’ve been loving it.

3. What books are you reading now or have read and loved that you’d recommend?

Company of One by Paul Jarvis

4. What is one actionable tip or piece of advice that you can tell our moms out there to help them on their financial independence journey?

I think one of the biggest tips that I can give people is to be surrounded by people that are similarly minded and on a very similar path to whatever the financial goal you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re trained to pay off your debt, follow people that are trying to also pay off debt so that you don’t get overwhelmed and feel like you’re so far behind.

So I would say, stay in your lane with whatever area you are focusing on in your financial life. And that’s where you can start to find some saturation and start to change your mindset and just feel better about your financial journey without that comparison syndrome.

Laura is a retired CPA and stay-at-home mom for her two girls.  Her husband, Brad, is the co-founder of the ChooseFI podcast.  Laura and Brad reached financial independence at age 36 through diligent savings, highlighted by their move from the high cost of living on Long Island, NY to the lower cost of living in Richmond, Virginia. They also kept their used cars for a LONG time.  Laura loves talking to people about how she saves money for her family on clothing, shopping for her kids, meal planning & saving on groceries, and some of the great ways they’ve used travel rewards to take amazing trips as a family.

I love to play board games. We play all the time as a family and have been enjoying Dominion.

2. Who inspires you the most and why?

My parents. They inspire me in the way they live their life. They are still always active, doing things and going places. I hope to be like that as I get older.

4. What is one actionable tip or piece of advice that you can tell our moms out there to help them on their financial independence journey?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you’re saving on the three main items, housing, cars, and food then don’t worry about spending on the little things or you will stress out. You don’t want deprivation on your way to FI. Enjoy the journey.

Maria founded a real estate investing company in Finland in 2018 in which she now works full-time as the CEO focusing on buy-and-hold rental apartments using the BRRRR strategy. I can put both my feet behind my head at the same time.

My best friend Lena because she pushes me to be myself because I do things a bit differently when it comes to, the rental site. I put extra love and attention into each unit and use different colors unlike anybody else. She’s been inspiring and very concrete when it comes to interior decoration, but also when it comes to life. For her, it’s all about creating a life and a home that you love.

Find your strength because typically when you know what you’re good at, that’s what’s going to energize you. That’s what you should be focusing on. It’s really the two file box. I clean it out. It’s amazing what happens energetically when I clean that out. If you’re still finding yourself stuck, go throw away the clutter.

1. What is one fun fact about you that not that many people know?

So a hundred thousand years ago, in 1999, I hopped on my bicycle with a hundred other people. We rode from Seattle, Washington to Washington DC in 48 days.  It was a super fun time. It was a fundraiser for the American Lung Association because when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.

2. Who inspires you the most and why?

My oldest daughter is incredibly inspiring because she is so smart and she’s so driven. She’s 15. She has the normal amount of 15 year old,  the self-consciousness, but there are other parts of her where she’s like, I know that this is right, and I am not going to be deterred in any way. I don’t care what other people think about me.

Know what you want and write down what your goals. It doesn’t necessarily have to be you plural. It can be you singular. I think that being on the same page with your partner is so valid. Know what you want as a mom, know what you want as a for your financial situation and then work backwards.
