Ray Butler is a folk singer, he is also a canal boat enthusiast. This podcast is a field recording aboard the narrowboat Pisces built in 1935 by WJ Yarwood & Sons of Northwich (Cheshire). Once a working boat Pisces is now owned by Hillingdon Narrowboats Association for leisure activities. Ray sings unaccompanied songs about the history of British canals and the lives and times of the canal people. The recording also captures the ambient sounds of a stretch of canal still used by working boats.

As is often the case when family members sing together Lizzy & Mandy Hardingham's intuitive harmonies are a delight. Lizzy is a young musician playing traditional or self-composed acoustic music. In 2018 she was a finalist in the prestigious New Roots competition for young musicians under the age of 25. Lizzy's mum Mandy is an experienced performer singing regularly at Watford Folk Club with a mix of traditional and contemporary songs.

Singer Catherine Earnshaw collaborates with storywheel and together they perform folk songs of the British Isles. Catherine's beautiful emotive vocals float over music that mixes Middle East and North African influences. Storywheel (aka Keith Clouston, formerly of Transglobal Underground) creates the atmosphere with Oud (Arab lute), voice, percussion and occasional drones.
