Today on Perry and Shawna Mornings: The Psalms are God’s invitation to meet with him! And as we meet with him He gives us permission to pour out every single emotion to Him, the good, the bad, and the ugly. And as we honestly pour out our hearts to him, he doesn’t send us away. Instead he draws us near and embraces us. And while we’re in his embrace he reminds us that he’s King now and that the best is yet to come! So first we take a look at one of those Psalms that remind us that God is King over all the earth now (117)—This one and only King doesn’t force the nations to obey Him but rather invites us and all the nations to praise him because he loves us and because he will never let go those who take refuge in Him!
Then we have a conversation about how the Psalms teach us to talk with God as one talks with their dearest friend. Through prayer God offers friendship—Only the God of the bible offers this intimacy. God wants to speak to us through His Word. And, He wants to hear our thoughts about His Word. It’s this lifelong, everlasting friendship and conversation with us—The Psalms show us what this looks like this side of eternity. Finally we look at another Psalm that reminds us that God is King over all the earth now (131). Here we see the heart posture of one who knows their God is the only King: They don’t consider themselves better than others. They trust God especially when it looks like He’s not in control. And they relax in the storms of life like a child resting in their mother’s lap. They know the best is yet to come.
