Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP Claudette Thompson has pointed to the need for more public education about Jamaica's laws and how they are applied.

She was responding to questions from reporters yesterday, after former politician Jolyan Silvera was sentenced for the death of his wife, Melissa.

Opposition Spokesperson on Foreign and Regional Affairs, Senator Donna Scott-Mottley, is calling on the government to provide Jamaicans with a detailed explanation for its decision to terminate the medical cooperation arrangement with Cuba.

The Jamaican government announced the discontinuation of the arrangement on Thursday, noting that it was unable to agree on the terms and conditions of a new technical cooperation arrangement.

A multi-agency investigation is underway to determine the cause of a fire which engulfed a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC ) bus in Kingston this morning.
