Mayor of Montego-Bay, Richard Vernon, has announced plans to address growing concerns over the harassment of tourists in St. James.

He says, there have been reports from hotels about the issue, with stakeholders pushing for stronger enforcement strategies, to protect the parish's tourism sector, a major contributor to the economy.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz is urging commuters to report taxi operators who are hiking fares illegally to the Transport Authority.

This morning, Minister Vaz revealed that he received numerous complaints about the increase which has not been approved by the ministry.

Medical Chief of Staff at the University Hospital of the West Indies Dr. Carl Bruce is to go on trial in September in relation to allegations of physical assault.

Allegations are that on January 31 2007, Dr. Bruce, a consultant neurosurgeon, assaulted another neurosurgeon, Dr. Roger Hunter, at the hospital.
