The Bank of Jamaica says the banking sector is just now recovering from the significant negative impact of Hurricane Melissa on the ABM infrastructure.

Deputy Governor of the Bank of Jamaica, Dr. Jide Lewis says 90 to 95% of ABMs were back by March.

The St. James Police Division has recorded 34 murders since the start of the year. 

This represents an increase of 11 when compared to the 23 reported for the same period last year.

He made the statement in parliament yesterday, as he commented on last Friday's islandwide blackout which left thousands of JPS customers in darkness for hours. According to Mr. Vaz in instances where JPS customers suffer significant losses due to a blackout, compensation by JPS must be considered.
