Leah notes that many veterans seek service connections for IBS, often related to Gulf War exposures, classified as a functional gastrointestinal disorder. She explains that IBS can also be associated with mental health conditions like PTSD and depression, influencing symptom severity. Regarding VA disability compensation, IBS and related GI conditions can be rated up to 30%, but overlapping symptoms with other GI disorders can affect the rating (known as pyramiding).
