Acts chapter 5 opens with Ananias and Sapphira who lie about how much they sold their land for and they are both killed as a result. As the chapter progresses, many people are healed and signs and wonders are done through the apostles, and the Lord adds people to the church. But the apostles are jailed for preaching Jesus. And while they are in prison, an angel frees them from prison, and they go back to the temple where they continue to teach and preach, refusing to stop preaching the name of Jesus.
In chapter 6, there is a quarrel between two groups of widows, those who are Greek and those who are of the Jews. The apostles decide to appoint 7 men to serve so that they could continue preaching and giving themselves to prayer. Stephen is falsely accused with blasphemy and charged. In chapter 7, he makes his defense, and at the end, he is martyred when they stone him to death.
