  • Ria Reads Joshua 13-16
The chapters in today’s reading continue the record of Israel’s conquest of the Promised Land along with the distribution of the land as an inheritance to the different tribes.  Boundaries were clearly established so that each tribe knew the precise area that they were to inherit.
Chapter 13 outlines the remaining territories to be conquered and distributed among the remaining nine and a half tribes.  And it also recounts the inheritance that was distributed to the two and a half tribes on the other side of the Jordan.  Those were the tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
In chapter 14, Caleb asks for his inheritance, which had been promised to him by God as a reward for when he had stood against the word of the other spies.  When they came back from spying out the land they gave a negative report, Caleb stood up and said no, let us go over and conquer.  And so Caleb is commended for following God wholly in his heart.
Chapters 15 and 16 document the distribution of the land as an inheritance to the tribe of Judah and Joseph through his son Ephraim and also the specific inheritance that was given to Caleb.

  • Joyce Reads Joshua 6-7
    Bible Summary
Joshua’s strict obedience to God is a crucial lesson from this story. At every turn, Joshua did exactly as he was told, and the Israelites prospered under his leadership.
An ongoing theme in the Old Testament is that when the Jews obeyed God, they did well. When they disobeyed the consequences were bad.
    Chapter 7
Joshua understood why the Israelites sinned. Because Achan sinned greatly, He was stoned to death, for taking items from the defeated people of Jericho, when God forbade them not to.

Deuteronomy 31:- Through God let us do valiantly for through him, we shall do victoriously; if we resist the devil, he flee from us. But the heart of man is so careless, that all will be found too little to keep up a knowledge of the truths precepts and worship of God. Ministers who preach the word, know not the imagination of men but God, whose word it is knows perfectly.
