  • Ria Reads Deuteronomy 28 & 29
    Chapter summary
Chapter 29 describes three events – the day of the blowing of the trumpets; the day to afflict your souls and the ‘feast unto the Lord’ which are also called the feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement and the feast of Tabernacles.
Each of these events is described as a ‘holy convocation’.
A convocation is a large formal assembly of people or the action of calling people together for such an assembly. In this case it is God who is calling the gathering and who is giving instructions for its observation.
The events, however, are not just described as a convocation, but as a ‘holy’ convocation. Meaning that these gatherings are not ordinary, regular, common gatherings. But rather they are holy, sacred, set apart. There is something special about them.
God instructs the people what they are to do for each meeting and the feast of tabernacles, the last of the convocations described in the reading today, extends for seven days with an additional celebration on the eighth day.
Chapter 30 covers vows and oaths made and the importance of doing what one says. It also overs the process of confirming or nullifying vows made by a young girl, woman or widow are also described. Overall, the chapter speaks of the importance of being mindful of words spoken and promises made.

    Deut  27
Moses and the elders warned the people to keep the commands that were given to them. once they cross the Jordan.
They were to build an altar of stones on Mount Ebal.
On the stones were the laws in which they were to continue to obey.
Chp 28—Describes the blessings and the curse. Those that continued to obey the commands of the Lord would experience the blessing which included being set above other nations of the earth; the fruit of their womb would be blessed, their flocks and herds, their land and whatever they put their hands to do would prosper. Disobedience resulted in the opposite—lack, scarcity, and defeat in every area.

Deuteronomy 12-: Destroy the high places where nations worship their gods. You shall bring your offering in the place that the LORD will choose. We cannot serve God and Mammon nor worship the true God and idols, nor depends up on Christ Jesus and upon superstitious or self righteous confidence.
Deuteronomy 13: If a prophet or anyone else entices you away from the Lord they must be put to death. If a town has turned away, it must be destroyed. It is the policy of Satan to try to lead us to evil by those whom we love, when we least suspect of any ill-design.

  • Ria Reads Deuteronomy 10-11
    Bible Summary
In Deuteronomy chapter 10 God gives instructions to prepare another two tablets of stone, just like the first set which Moses broke when he found the people worshipping the golden calf in rebellion to God. But this time God Himself would inscribe the tablets with the commandments.
The children of Israel then continue on their journey and when they get to Jotbath described as “a land of rivers of waters”, God separates the Levites to serve a special function. They are to bear the ark of the covenant, stand before the Lord and minister to Him and bless the people in the Lord’s name.
Chapter 10 concludes with God’s requirements of the people, which could be summed up in the admonition to “fear the Lord thy God”.
Chapter 11 opens with the other side of the metaphorical coin with the admonition to “love the Lord thy God” and basically, the whole chapter is a call to love God. It is a love which is expressed through obedience, always keeping God’s charges, statutes, judgments and commandments, and they are to keep these words in their heart and in their soul and teach them to their children.
The people are warned to remain faithful to God when they enter into the Promised Land and not turn from Him to serve and worship other god

  • Elonda Reads Duet 7-9
CH 7 —God drives out seven nations from the land that Israel is to possess.  Although these nations are greater and stronger, God promise to deliver them into their hands.  The Israelites are warned not to intermingle  in marriage with these nations because they would turn and serve other gods.  He also reminds them that if they keep He commandments that they would experience increase and their numbers would be multiplied.
Chp 8 —The Israelites are reminded once again — do no forget the Lord thy God.  For it was He that brought them out of the land of Egypt, provided for them in the wilderness for forty years and lead them into the promised land
Chp 9 —The Israelites prepare to cross the Jprdan.  Once again God goes ahead of them and drives out the nation of the Anakites as He had promised.  They are reminded of the anger that aroused the Lord in Horeb when they decided to build a golden calf to worship. God called them a stiff-necked people.  Moses, immediately interceded on they behalf to prevent God from destroying them. God continues to be faithful of his promise and covenant.
