  • Olakunle Reads Numbers 14-15
    Bible Summary Day 50
Numbers 14:- The people grumbled so the Lord said that they would spend forty years in the wilderness. They went up to the Land but were defeated. Those who do not trust God continually vex themselves. The Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron and in them reproached the Lord. We complain.
Numbers 15:- There is one law for you and for strangers. Make an offering if you sin unintentionally. Anyone who sins defiantly shall be cut off.

  • Ria Reads Numbers 11-13
In Numbers 11, the people displease God with their complaining. They are dissatisfied with God’s current provision for them in the form of manna and begin to long for Egypt and everything that they enjoyed there (forgetting the bondage and hard times they were under when they were back in Egypt). And so they begin to cry out for meat.
Moses himself then complains to God about the people complaining to him. And I really like how Moses engages with God in such a real way. He says to God, What have I done that you’ve given me these people as a burden? Where am I going to find meat for them? If this is what you’re going to put me through, well you might as well just kill me. Imagine saying all this to God.
Thankfully God has broad shoulders and didn’t respond in the affirmative to Moses’s cry. Instead, God directs Moses to gather 70 men from the elders of Israel to help him and declares He will meet with them and put some of the spirit that is upon Moses upon them. He gives further instructions that the people should prepare to receive the meat that they’ve asked for, and they will get it for 30 days. So God comes up with a solution to the problem.
The spirit then comes upon the men. God sends quail for the people, but sadly they don’t get to enjoy it for as long as they wanted to because a plague is sent upon them and many of them die and are buried in that place.
We then move on to chapter 12 where we see Miriam and Aaron speak against Moses because of his marriage to an Ethiopian woman. God comes down, calls all three of them to come and meet Him at the tabernacle of the congregation, a bit like students being called to the principal’s office. After speaking to them, Miriam becomes leprous, and Moses has to intercede for her. She spends 7 days outside the camp before being brought back in.
The final chapter, chapter 13, finds the people on the verge of entering the Promised Land. Twelve men are chosen, one from each tribe, and they are sent to spy out the land. They spend forty days searching the land and when they return, they give a negative report recounting all the challenges and problems. But Caleb is the first to stand up and say no, let’s go up because we are well able to overcome it.

  • Olakunle reads Leviticus 26-27
    Bible Summary Day 43
Leviticus 26: This chapter contains a general enforcement of all the laws given by Moses; by promises of reward in case of obedience on the one hand; and threatening of punishment for disobedience on the other. While Israel maintained a national regard to God’s worship, Sabbath and sanctuary and did not turn aside to idolatry, the Lord engaged to continue to them temporal mercies and religious advantages. These great and precious promises, though they relate chiefly to the Life which now is, were typical of the spiritual blessings made sure by the conveant of grace to all believers through Christ.
    1. Plenty and abundance of the fruit of the earth. Every good and perfect gift must be expected from above from the father of lights.
    2. Peace under divine protection. Those dwell in safety, that dwell in God.
    3. The favour of God, which is the fountain of good.
    4. The grace of the conveant. All conveant blessings are summed up in the conveant relation, I will be your God and ye shall be my people and they are all grounded upon their redemption. Having purchased them, God would own them and never cast them off until they cast Him off.
Leviticus 27: This chapter contains zeal for the service disposed by the Israelites on some occasion, to donate themselves or their children to the service of the Lord in his house for life. It is good to be zealously affected and liberally disposed for the Lord’s service but the matter should be well weighed and Prudence should direct as to what we do; else rash vows and hesitation in doing them will dishonor God and trouble our own minds. Let us draw near with a true heart and in full assurance of Faith worshipping God with the more cheerfulness and humble confidence still saying BLESSED BE GOD FOR JESUS CHRIST.

  • Ria Reads Leviticus 24-25
Chapter 24 continues talking about the tabernacle and it provides further details on what is to take place within the holy place.  It starts with instructions on how Aaron is to tend the lamps, keeping it burning night and day and instructions for keeping the table of shewbread.  They are to bake 12 cakes and lay them in two rows of six on the table.  The bread is to be replaced every Sabbath.
The chapter continues with a situation where the son of an Israelite woman and an Egyptian father blasphemes the name of the Lord when he was fighting with another Israelite man.  He is brought to Moses and the people wait on the Lord for directions on how to deal with the issue.  The Lord directs what to do and provides additional instructions for dealing with other scenarios related to taking the life of or injuring someone and taking the life of an animal.  But ultimately in that section, the Lord is indicating that there is one law by which everybody is to abide.
Chapter 25 is about the Jubilee and the seventh-year Sabbath rest for the land.  Every six years the people are to plant in their fields and tend to their vineyards.  But in the seventh year, they are to leave the land alone to let it get a rest.  In the eighth year they can start planting again.  This meant they had to trust and rely on God to provide for them during the intervening years.
The Lord also implements a Jubilee, where every seven year cycle of seven years, that is after 49 years, a Jubilee is declared in the fiftieth year.  In that year of Jubilee there is restoration, freedom and liberty.  Things that have had to be given up in the 49 years are to be restored to their original owners.
God continues to provide directions and instructions on how to deal with the poor, how to deal with people who are hired servants as well as how to deal with bondservants.  The Lord concludes by indicating that they are His servants, the people that He has brought out of the land of Egypt and He is the Lord their God.
