There has been much discussion over the past year about the role played in Gaza by UNRWA - the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East.

This past week, the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) adopted two laws cutting Israel’s cooperation with UNRWA. There has been an international outcry.

On July 19, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) published its advisory opinion regarding the so-called "occupied Palestinian territory," including East Jerusalem. This opinion was presented at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in September 2024, where member nations voted on the matter. The outcome holds the potential for sanctions, increased isolation of Israel, and significant implications for Christians worldwide who support Israel.

The Israeli-Hezbollah war in Lebanon rages. According to the IDF, 1200 Hezbollah fighters have been eliminated in ground operations since October 2023. Israel’s Air Force continued this week its strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. The focus has been on locations for weapon manufacturing as well as storage of Hezbollah financial assets. Suburbs of Beirut and the ancient coastal city of Tyre have been a special focus of Israeli attacks. The town of Kfarkela, a Hezbollah stronghold in the south, was destroyed.

Israel is fighting a war on seven fronts for its survival. Its main enemy is the revolutionary regime in Tehran – the radical Shiite Mullahs who hijacked Iran in 1979. Their goal is to destroy the west, and to export their revolutionary Islamic ideology around the world. This regime attacks Israel directly but operates through its many allies and proxies in the region. Its most important proxy is Hezbollah, in Lebanon.

The Jewish new year commenced yesterday on Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah is the birthday of the universe, the day G‑d created Adam and Eve. It is celebrated as the Jewish New Year. Together with Yom Kippur (which follows 10 days later), it is part of the Yamim Nora'im (Days of Awe).
