  • The Early Church: Praying, Seeking, Submitted to the Word
This sermon examines the period between the Ascension and Pentecost, highlighting the early church's commitment to corporate prayer, scriptural governance, and seeking God's direction. The central message emphasizes that the apostles and the wider community of 120 believers gathered in one accord, prioritizing devoted prayer over passive waiting. The text explores the theological significance of replacing Judas with Matthias, arguing that this act fulfilled prophetic Scripture and restored the symbolic representation of the twelve tribes of Israel before the Spirit's outpouring. The preacher encourages the congregation to view corporate prayer as the foundational activity of the church, asserting that such unity and dependence on God precede and empower all other ministry efforts.

  • Sanctified Once for All
Hebrews 10:5-10 How can a holy God accept sinful people? For centuries Israel answered with the altar, the knife, and the blood of bulls and goats, but the writer of Hebrews tells us plainly in verse 4 that those sacrifices could never take away sin. They were shadows pointing to a substance, a promissory note awaiting payment. So when Christ came into the world, He quoted Psalm 40 and declared, "Sacrifices and offerings You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me." Notice what is happening here. God, who needed no sacrifice from us, provided the sacrifice Himself. The eternal Son took on flesh, and in that body He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." Where Adam failed and Israel faltered, Jesus obeyed completely. He did not come merely to improve religion; He came to end the old system by fulfilling it, taking away the first so that He might establish the second (v. 9). And here is the glory of the gospel: "By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all" (v. 10). Once for all! The priests of the old covenant never sat down because their work was never finished, but Christ offered one sacrifice, and it was enough. Your sanctification is not something you earn by performance, and it is not something you lose by every stumble. It was accomplished at the cross, where you were set apart, cleansed, and made God's own. This does not make us careless; it makes us grateful, for those who have been sanctified by such a sacrifice will want to live for the One who gave His body for them. So come to Him today without

  • Rom. 8:18-25 - Groaning with Creation
The very creation itself groans along with the people of God. The creation waits for the removal of the curse that it was subjected to unwillingly. We are to wait patiently for the fullness of adoption as sons, for the redemption of our bodies. But waiting patiently does not mean sitting around doing nothing. Because of the glory that shall be revealed, believers should not allow the suffering they experience now to hinder them from boldly standing for the righteousness of God's kingdom here and now, as we await our Lord's return.

  • Reversal and Restraint
Sermon | Esther 9:1-16 | Sunday Evening Service, October 18 2026. Preacher: Rocky Stevenson The sermon explores the dual themes of divine reversal and human restraint found in Esther 9, highlighting how God flips the fate of His people from destruction to victory. It connects this event to the historical disobedience of King Saul in 1 Samuel 15, arguing that the Jews' refusal to plunder their enemies, despite having legal right to do so, completes a cycle of obedience that was failed five centuries prior. Ps Rocky emphasizes that God's covenant faithfulness remains irrevocable even amidst Israel's disobedience, using this narrative to illustrate the broader theological truth that God's grace is displayed against the backdrop of human sin. By referencing Romans 11 and 12, the message concludes that the appropriate response to God's mercy is not entitlement or greed, but a transformed life characterized by holy restraint and gratitude. #reversal #restraint #obedience #covenant #grace Visit Benoni Bible Church: www.benonibiblechurch.co.za Address: 149 President Brand Rd, Rynfield, Benoni - view on Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/oag383xq3U2b7RQN6 Copyright © 2026, Benoni Bible Church. • Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
This sermon concludes a series on Romans 11 by examining the future national salvation of Israel and the universal scope of God's mercy. The exposition highlights that while Israel is currently opposed to the gospel, God's covenant promises remain irrevocable, ensuring their eventual restoration through the New Covenant. The text emphasizes that God has shut up all humanity in unbelief to demonstrate that salvation is available to everyone through grace, not works. The central theme is the incomprehensible depth of God's wisdom and knowledge, which surpasses human understanding and challenges believers to rely entirely on His sufficiency. The message concludes with a doxology praising God's sovereignty and urging believers to find their identity and motivation in the completeness of Christ rather than in self-effort.
